Forums - Sony - IGN calls GT5 the 2nd biggest disappointment of the year

why is it stupid. after years in the making, the game should have been the most polished piece of work ever. lol

Racing-wise, it is. In the review itself he states the game is the best Racing Sim he has ever played.

And what genre is the game? Racing sim.

He basically removed points for not liking the menus and the soundtrack.

That would be like rating Super Mario Galaxy 2 an 8/10 and saying the platforming was "By far and away, the best 3D Platformer of all time. I don't like the menus though!"

It's stupid. The game is a racing sim. If it does that job perfectly, then there shouldn't be a problem. Review the game for what it is, not for what you wanted it to be.

What they wrote about it outlines exactly what's wrong with the review they (And a few other sites, it seems) put up.

"Was it worth the wait? For ardent fans, undoubtedly. For everyone else, however, we really have to wonder if Polyphony Digital understands that it ultimately painted itself into a corner. The expectations placed upon Gran Turismo 5, built off the back of years of waiting, refining, teasing, rethinking, hyping and overselling ultimately took its toll."

They weren't really reviewing the game itself. They were reviewing the game against the expectations they had.

In a way, I suppose it's Sony's/Polyphony's own fault for hyping it up to be the 2nd coming of Jesus, but seriously... Some of these reviews are plain stupid. Even in the IGN review the reviewer stated that it was by far the best racing simulator he had ever played... Yet he still felt the need to give it an 8.5?

AND! I have to complain again. They also listed Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver as a disappointment? WHAT!? I am beginning to lose all faith in IGN.

so what it's just a review site, which = someones opinion. What a gaming site has to agree with you all of the time, for you to like it.

The thing is, you're wrong. It's not just a review site. It's one of the biggest gaming websites on the Internet for more than just reviews.

And when someones opinion is obviously given in a wrong manner, I can comment on that. Opinions can't really be wrong on stuff like this. Opinions CAN be given in the wrong way though. Like this review is.

Gaming sites don't HAVE to agree with me. I haven't even played the damn game yet. My point it, the reviewer is quite obviously not reviewing the game for what it is. He's reviewing it against the expectations he had for it being the most polished piece of work... Ever. That's why I highlighted that one quote. It's plain stupid.

If thats the case then how come TOO HUMAN with its 10 years of development isn't the best and most polished game ever??

Alan wake? why is that game flawed depite the long ass development time? 540p after  years in development?

Just because it takes something so long to develop doesn't mean it will be perfect no game is, your way of thinking is kind of _______I won't say it just a hint.

All of those games should have been the most polished game ever. If it takes so long to make the dam game,it should be as close to perfection as it can get. If a game is flawed, despite years of development time, then that's on the game maker's.

Funny, no Fallout: New Vegas there when IGN named it their most anticipated game of 2010 and it turned out to be a pile of crap.

Very true.

No Wii on top 10 dissapointments this year. That would be great if I trust IGN a little more.

That's because IGN, like most "professional" reviewers, have the bar set so low for Wii games that they expect nothing, so they can't be disappointed. But they'll still nitpick to justify their low scores and continued low bar.

I assume now this is a good thing. No hype for Wii games, and yet still Nintendo don't need it. They know players who like them will buy their games and the public too. That's why they never hype that much their games and why they don't have the big First Week in sales. But well they are confident in their products.

#1 Is my GoTY, so FFXIII you may be their disappointment, but to many others you are the shit!

IGN is not important. They have their opinion. They call GT5 a disappointment? fine. This game was probably too much hyped.

Developers have to learn that hype can be a fantastic weapon but also a doomsday device. You have to be MORE THAN CONFIDENT in your product to hype it a lot. I think that's why Nintendo keep their games so secret. We didn't know a bit of Donkey Kong before E3 2010 and it appears to be a great game.

Those who adore or love GT5, good for you. Is it necessary that your game is the best game of all and have a 94 at least metascore? no.

But GT5 is (so far) bugless and more attractive than NV save for the overblown framerate drops but yet NV is forgiven more.

But NV is a Bethesda game. It would have been a disappointment had it been released playable :p

BTW where's ALAN WAKE?

Long development time, lot of hype yet "failed" to deliver.......thats disappointing right? according to a certain group of fans/fantatics in this thread.

It's on there. Not on the list itself but on the "Dishonorable Mentions"

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

I agree with the list except for fable 3 and GT5 since I have not been able to try ether yet. Especially the dishonorable mentions. Infact I think those 3 games should have made the list instead of crackdown 2, kane and lynch, and lost planet 2 which at least weren't hyped at all. And no the list wasn't made with those choices to get more hits. If they wanted to do that the list would look like this.

10. Heavy Rain

9. God of War 3

8. Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver

7. Fable 3

6. Final Fantasy XIII

5. Playstation Move

4. Microsoft Kinect

3. Halo Reach

2. Gran Turismo 5

1. Call of Duty Black Ops

All games "some" people viewed as dissappointing that a lot of people would get pissed about being on the list.
