Read the reviews... IGN said that too. |
IGN make a lot of nice noises about the handling, but nowhere do they quote the above bolded statement.
Stating opinion as fact really isnt on !
Only IGN US has reviewed GT5 which they gave 8.5/10
IGN AU and UK hasn't posted their reviews.

If you do then i agree. But as i tried to explain physics in racing means something different to say a fps game. Things like how the car reacts to being hit by another car, how the performance of the car changes over time in regard to things like tire/fuel use. If the fuel is low the car should go faster due to less weight being carried, how other cars react to your driving style, how the track changes as the race progresses with more rubber being down in certain places. And so on. Add into that things such as sound of the car as it is in various different states, if your going at 150mp your obviously not in 1st gear, how the car handles after having two wheels on the grass etc. In my opinion GT5 does not do those things better then other games and thus in my opinion the actual racing physics are not better. But as i said it depends on your definition of physics in racing game. Some would say physics of how the car crumples up when crashing. Which again is not as good as other games. |
For me physics is more about "weight transfer, grip or not on the road". It is the car vs the road. More than the car vs the barrier or the others cars.
But, I see your point. It is a question of definition. And that is not me, a poor driver, that will give you the final answer.
Also, something weird, it seems u unlock damage with your progression in the game (gameinformer)

Look closely at all 3 IGN reviews. They are the exact same (text and scores). Is that a first? |
No we were all wrong, IGN AU/UK haven't reviewed
people who live in UK get "UK" int heir address bars
See all 3 reviews at the top it says "Written on Nov 24th, US"...on all three
There is no UK/AU review yet

Ok I'm not having a pop at you, but the statement "Car Physics are Perfect" is such a stupid one I have to haul it up.
You cannot represent an analogue system perfectly in the digital world. Compromises must be struck !
Maybe these ludicrous claims are the reason GT5 is a dissapointment to some.

Have fun, we'll see you in a year when you finally leave the house. If you're not in that group -- you like, even love racing games, but care less about tuning and more about the thrill of the race -- GT5 is like walking in on a group of physicists discussing string theory and asking who wants to go toss around a ball for a bit. You're looking to have fun; they're only interested in studying the math behind how it bounces.
Good god the level of nit picking is crazy!!!! 0_0 I enjoy joystiq reviews a lot but good lord, they say the lightning is 'too' good that it makes it look like a car commercial than Rl!!!! I mean wtf kind of a complaint is that? |
Oh man this review was golden. So, GT5's biggest let down is that it's simulation is so close to reality that it becomes boring?
I want to say facepalm....but I fear that's not enough.

Still sounds like a good game, but not quite delivering it considering it was 6 years on the making. I wonder if that's another doing of the japanese developer curse that hit this gen... maybe it's time for Sony to reconsider leaving GT to PD's hands.
So much for the hype
