Most deffinatly not the best racing game ever...

GT5 is a good game but it doesn't tick all the boxes. Especially if we are comparing to Forza 3. The sound is not as good, the crash physics are not as good, the tracks overall are less varied and not as good, the AI is nowhere near as good, the customization is nowhere near as good, the ability to design your cars is not in it, the menus are basic, has less cars that look detailed 200 compared to Forza's 400 etc.

The areas where i think Gt5 is better is the graphics of the overall game. The 200 premium cars look better then any other cars ever created, period. The racing world looks awesome from the green grass to the racing stands.

I am a huge racing fan, if you look at my gamer tags your see i have pretty much every racing game this gen on both consoles. GT5 is a really good game, but best racing game this gen in terms of simulation still belongs to Forza 3. I think overall the reviews reflect that.

Driving physics are better than any console game. Period.

It is still the best driving simulator, perhaps not the best racing game ...

Read the reviews... IGN said that too.

IGN make a lot of nice noises about the handling, but nowhere do they quote the above bolded statement.

Stating opinion as fact really isnt on !

Only IGN US has reviewed GT5 which they gave 8.5/10

IGN AU and UK hasn't posted their reviews.

Your entitled to your opinion mate. But i disagree. The racing physics are hampered by other things such as the sound, the lack of realistic damage and poor AI. When racing a car will not just keep to the same line if you are around other cars. One of you has to make a decision of do you brake and let the guy have the line, or do you go for it and don't hold back. In GT5 you just collide and the AI car will push you out the way and continue on his sunday drive. That is not realistic. It is not a true simulation of how that is when racing.

But that is just my opinion. I don't want to sound like i am bashing the game because i don't think it deserves to be bashed.

ok, I understand your point.

But driving is not racing.
And IA is not physics.
Just go play with your buddy if you want a true competitor

So this is still the best driving simulator.

Also, it is not my opinion, it is based about what people saied. They are all aware of the problems. But they are also clearly aware of the things that functions ...

It depends on if you mean physics in terms of bumps on the road, when you go over a racing barrier and so on?

If you do then i agree. But as i tried to explain physics in racing means something different to say a fps game. Things like how the car reacts to being hit by another car, how the performance of the car changes over time in regard to things like tire/fuel use. If the fuel is low the car should go faster due to less weight being carried,  how other cars react to your driving style, how the track changes as the race progresses with more rubber being down in certain places. And so on. Add into that things such as sound of the car as it is in various different states, if your going at 150mp your obviously not in 1st gear, how the car handles after having two wheels on the grass etc. In my opinion GT5 does not do those things better then other games and thus in my opinion the actual racing physics are not better. But as i said it depends on your definition of physics in racing game. Some would say physics of how the car crumples up when crashing. Which again is not as good as other games.

For me physics is more about "weight transfer, grip or not on the road". It is the car vs the road. More than the car vs the barrier or the others cars.
But, I see your point. It is a question of definition. And that is not me, a poor driver, that will give you the final answer.

Also, something weird, it seems u unlock damage with your progression in the game (gameinformer)

my prediction failed.... IGN fails so much... how could they have given GT5 an 8.5 WTF!!!!

i am starting to think that the PS team at IGN are actually Microsoft fans in secret.

You harm yourself by saying odd things like this considering other PS3 exclusives this year that have good reviews from IGN.

IGN's score is basically around where the media average is.....I see nothing wrong with it really.

Gamereactor with their 7 is really wrong though!

well it is around the same with other media but they gave SHIFT 9.0

and this is surely better than that

also IGN Original don't seem to be reviewing it

IGN original and IGN UK both gave it 8.5

And you can't compare sim racing with arcade...also NFS Shift might simply be more fun, it has a higher metacritic than GT5..so other gaming media sites may have liked it more too

Look closely at all 3 IGN reviews. They are the exact same (text and scores). Is that a first?

No we were all wrong, IGN AU/UK haven't reviewed

people who live in UK get "UK" int heir address bars

See all 3 reviews at the top it says "Written on Nov 24th, US"...on all three

There is no UK/AU review yet

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Ok I'm not having a pop at you, but the statement "Car Physics are Perfect" is such a stupid one I have to haul it up.

You cannot represent an analogue system perfectly in the digital world. Compromises must be struck !

Maybe these ludicrous claims are the reason GT5 is a dissapointment to some.

joystiq

4/5

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/24/gran-turismo-5-review/

Here's the deal: If you're one of those car nuts I mentioned earlier, here's your game. Have fun, we'll see you in a year when you finally leave the house. If you're not in that group -- you like, even love racing games, but care less about tuning and more about the thrill of the race -- GT5 is like walking in on a group of physicists discussing string theory and asking who wants to go toss around a ball for a bit. You're looking to have fun; they're only interested in studying the math behind how it bounces.

Good god the level of nit picking is crazy!!!! 0_0 I enjoy joystiq reviews a lot but good lord, they say the lightning is 'too' good that it makes it look like a car commercial than Rl!!!! I mean wtf kind of a complaint is that?

Oh man this review was golden. So, GT5's biggest let down is that it's simulation is so close to reality that it becomes boring?

I want to say facepalm....but I fear that's not enough.

Current PC Build

CPU - i7 8700K 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz turbo) 6 cores OC'd to 5.2 GHz with Watercooling (Hydro Series H110i) | MB - Gigabyte Z370 HD3P ATX | Gigabyte GTX 1080ti Gaming OC BLACK 11G (1657 MHz Boost Core / 11010 MHz Memory) | RAM - Corsair DIMM 32GB DDR4, 2400 MHz | PSU - Corsair CX650M (80+ Bronze) 650W | Audio - Asus Essence STX II 7.1 | Monitor - Samsung U28E590D 4K UHD, Freesync, 1 ms, 60 Hz, 28"

Still sounds like a good game, but not quite delivering it considering it was 6 years on the making. I wonder if that's another doing of the japanese developer curse that hit this gen... maybe it's time for Sony to reconsider leaving GT to PD's hands.
