Yeah i agree actully, a lot like Tales of Vespira being 360 exclusive. |
It's not exclusive in the one market that probably matters for it. In the west Tales games always bomb on PlayStations.

Madworld doing about 5 times better than God Hand which is the same type of game. If you want to debate if it made money, many sources say your average Wii game hits profit around the same amount of your average PS2 game, 250k. Bayonetta doing over a million copies combined, it was obvious that PS3 version didn't cost them much Infinite Space, not winning any DS sales awards but a mostly 2D sprite game with some nice 3D on the ships, it was an obvious low budget affair even for DS standards, despite that they made a quality product, and 100k should be enough for them to break even with that project. As far as Vanquish goes time will tell on that one, it's still the holidays. |
I didn't have any expectations. I'm speaking to hindsight. A game might make enough money to be profitable, which is great, doesn't mean with hindsight you can't easily spot the mistakes. Most of the games indicated could very well have sold more than they did (even though some were undoubtably successful) if better choices had been made in certain areas.
They say hindsight is cheap, which it is, but doesn't mean it isn't clear at times.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
i would hate for them to go bankrupt, because they are amongst one of my favourite game studio's... Vanquish is awesome it deserves more.. this company are good with gameplay and art-style for there games, they even worked around the limitations of the wii's hardware and Madworld looked stunning.. but i did not like madworld much though.. if they make a sequal there is room for improvement
Bayonetta and MadWorld did well, the others not so much.
MadWorld was a pretty bad game though, and I am yet to play Bayonetta, but it looks like an awesome game.
Vanquish is a western style third person shooter game by Japanese developer, and all the anime inspired cut-scens in the trailer all do not convince the real shooter fans (aka the westerners) that this is a serious shooter for macho man. So it was FAIL even before the game was reviewed to be a superb game by the western game sites, just like Black Ops will still sell 9 millions on first day no matter what the reviewers say, reviews simply does not work for shooters.
Japanese developers should just stop trying to make shooters, it just wont sell. Lets say Activision just suddenly want to make a spiky hair hero melodrama turn base JRPG developed by all westerners, would Japan market care for such a game? For me, Silent Hill end at number 4, the last by Japan Team Silent, others by Climax are simply look alike.
Pretty much the only reason for the rather low Vanquish sales in comparison to Bayonetta is the length of the game.
Could have done much better with a ~7 hours campaign, or an online mode or a co-op mode.
Gameplaywise the game is excellent. Let's hope the sales will remain steady over the holiday period.
If you actually read the yearly game charts for this generation, very few of the top games are based on new IPs; and those that are tend to be developed by a premiere studio (often first party studio) with a massive marketing push and/or sell to a new and untapped market demographic. With the kinds of games Platnium games has been producing there sales expectations should be very low ...

That makes no sense, you say Bayonetta is the only one to do okay, that games can be a success all day but in hindsight it could have done better... yeah that applies to everything thats not Call of Duty, Mario, and Wii ____ series as far as sales go... to make out that hindsight is the reason these games didn't do well is a cop out.

You know, I can't actually make any sense out of that. "to make out that hindsight is the reason these games didn't do well is a cop out" - what are you talking about? I didn't say that - I said hindsight allowed us to see all to well some of the mistakes Platinum made. Sorry, but if I'm going to respond you're going to have to make more sense!
