Forums - Nintendo - Wii Speak - R.I.P. - Conduit 2 won't support either

See: http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=nl&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwii.4gamers.be%2Fnieuws%2F945%2F1%2FGeen-Wii-Speak-voor-The-Conduit-2

It's poorly translated, but apparently it was Nintendo themselves who suggested Wii Speak not be supported.  Makes sense then why Goldeneye/Black Ops doesn't support it either.

That may come as a slap in the face for those of us who bought Wii Speak but personally, if this is the case, I support Nintendo's decision.   Wii Speak was meant for more social utilization and would have been perfect for Wii Party if Wii Party was online.   It's really $#!t for FPS.   Heck, it was crappy even for Endless Ocean 2, but at least there if I didn't catch what my partner was saying the first time it didn't cost me a life.

Since no one is using Wii Speak for it's intended purpose (including Nintendo) then it's better it's phased out instead of shoehorned into FPS games that aren't better off for it.   It was makes it more viable for a 3rd party solution (Headbanger Headset).

Wish Goldeneye used that headset now, as I'll probably get it for Conduit 2 (and CoD:BO if I get that).  Don't know what other games might ever use that though.  I suppose there will be at least one more CoD on Wii,  Conduit 3? Unlikely.  Goldeneye 2?  Possible I suppose.   NHL 2k12 possibly.   Beyond that I can't think of anything, which means for most people you're buying a headset for only one or two games.

Bummer, but i have to say that Wii Speak itself was a horrible idea, and its implementation was even worse. Out of all the games ive played that support it, NONE worked well by default. I had to mess around with the audio settings (I.E. turning down the music and sound FX so that Wii Speak would "hear" it and send it over), which was a chore, and even then it only worked some of the time.

Wii Speak takes up a LOT of bandwidth. Ever notice it causes lots of lag when it's being used in Conduit 1?  That's the reason why. The headset on the other hand doesn't take up as much bandwidth and, therefore, we get almost lag-free gameplay.

Edit: A few months ago on Amazon I saw that the Wii Speak peripheral was "discontinued." So I knew Nintendo was going to drop support of it eventually and tell their 3rd parties use the headset considering the headset is a 2nd party peripheral.

Currently enjoying: Monster Hunter Tri.

Nintendo barely supports their prephirals, this isn't news.

I live for the burn...and the sting of pleasure...
I live for the sword, the steel, and the gun...

- Wasteland - The Mission.

Wii speak "doom" effect has had good results.

Above: still the best game of the year.

FU Nintendo. You decided to forgo a headset and go with a single mic solution which I was ok with and now you can't perfect it and I wasted $15 in the process.

Granted, this is the only time they have failed me, so I guess I'm ok with it. I just had high hopes.

The Headbanger Headset was licenced by Nintendo so my guess is that Wii Speak will indeed be discontinued. Nintendo won't have much of a choice but to re-brand the Headbanger Headset as Wii Speak.

There is still one question. What will happen to the Wii speak channel. The Headbanger Headset doesn't support previous Wii Speak titles, and Nintendo is discontinuing the mic

I remember rushing out to get WiiSpeak standalone because I was so excited about voice chat on Wii.  A shame it never worked as well as expected.

Nintendon't support additional gameplay peripherals like Microsoft/Sony do.

Tease.

What are you talking about?  They've given massive support to their Gamecube Remote add-on!

On a serious note, I'm not too broken up about Wii Speak dying.  The quality sucked so badly that every conversation turned could be summed up as "huh?!"
