Forums - Sales - Kinect overtracked by 500k? PS3 > 360 weekly HW?

Being that console manufacturers always report shipped numbers (or sold to retailers if you'd prefer) and Kinect didn't really sell out (widespread availability of bundles and some availability of stand alone units) I highly doubt that Microsoft would claim 1 Million units of Kinect sold if 1.3 Million units were sold to consumers; because they would have (most likely) shipped at least 1.5 Million units.

Now, I wouldn't fault vgchartz for this because their sample size is small and they estimate total numbers based on previous performance; and it is entirely possible that the way that sales of Kinect are distributed are different than (typical) game sales or (typical) console sales.

Have you looked lately?  The bundles are starting to sell out too.  Interestingly it's the 4GB model that has the most availablity.  Either there are far less 250GB bundles or people just want the extra storage space.

I have only been paying attention to Canadian sites and stores, and if I wanted to I could buy any SKU of Kinect I desired to right now. On top of that, I wonder how many scalpers have bought hardware with how readily available they are on ebay, they all have minimum bids higher than retail price, and most of the hardware has no bids on it; this is (typically) a pretty good sign of people who bought something to scalp it, but that there isn't a significant enough shortage to drive up the price to make scalping profitable.

Sold? Shipped? Whatever.

The fact is that the VGC overtracked Kinect.

I agree it doesn't seem to be selling as quickly here in Canada as in the US.

However I just took a quick look on ebay and a sensor just sold right this second for $195 so it seems the demand is there.

I'm wondering if we should go pick some up here and sell them on ebay? :P

And Microsoft saying "sold to consumers" is more like "sold to retail (their consumers)"... so shipped.

Off... one reply on Greenberg's twitter: why did you laugh at vgchartz then as they have it at 1.3 million?

Which part of sold thru to consumers don't you understand? A retailer is not a consumer, and it says "over 1 million", that could be 1,000,001 all the way up to 1,999,999. So it's likely that the Vg Chartz numbers are accurate or atleast close.

VGC estimates 1.3 million and Microsoft claims they sold over 1 millions, so what are you complaining about?

When there is positive 360 news ethomaz tries his hardest to debunk it.

Granted, I know you weren't being 100% serious, but they would have said 1.5 or 2 mil WAY before they would label 1,999,999 as over 1 mil.  Just saying.

Didn't MS say over 1 million sales?

Furthermore, if the thing is selling out in retail, it means shipped nearly equals sell-through.
