Newly-formed Activision studio Sledgehammer is working on a futuristic Call of Duty instalment set in SPACE, according to a fresh report.

Gamasutra sources claim Sledgehammer, run by Visceral game exiles Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, are working on a CoD instalment "set in the future" and featuring "space Marines".

Of course, these aren't the first whispers we've heard of the FPS series heading to the stars. Earlier this year Activision registered domains for "Call of Duty: Future Warfare, Advanced Warfare, Secret Warfare and Space Warfare".

It's previously been rumoured that all Call of Duty games set in the present and future come under Infinity Ward's jurisdiction (thus the 60s setting for Black Ops) so we're a bit confused.

Who wants laser guns in their CoD then?

Makes me wonder how they could do it, and at the same time try to keep it realistic...

Finally a COD game I'll actually buy

I love anything Sci-Fi!

But I hope its a TPS

I'm going to use the bolded in two ways.

1) CoD realistic. lol

2) I can't see how they'll manage to make a CoD game in the future life like...

I mean like how they try use real world events to make the games.

World War 2 obviously happened.

The war in the Middle East happened/happening.

The Cold War happened.

Everything they have done so far has had a realistic feel because something similar is actually happening or has happened.

So will you be shooting Metroids, Necromorphs, or both?

Fair enough. I actually liked the WW and WW2 CoD's. I enjoyed playing through actual operations and experiencing but a fraction of the horrors of those wars so I understand your concern.

Could be fun.

Well, there's three CODs slated for 2011, right?

@Carl2291

well we did just have the war against the moon. Remember? We nuked it. We won.

See, we totally toasted everything.

Space Warfare? Not sure what to think of this.

Go see how Battlefield 2142 worked out. Futuristic game born from a realistic franchise.
