My point was that if you have an hot new item complementary to an item that has been in the market for some time, it's good policy to "use" the new item to push the old one. If you think back both wiimote and wiifit had their initial shortage period, in those days bundles were the only way to find them (not necessarily nintendo bundles). Obviously ideal would be to ship enough to satisfy the demand, but if that's not possible, or a shortage happen, you may get a rate skewed toward the bundles.

That is good policy. However, that is usually a time-based feature and usually only limited quantities, but yes, there are bundles all the time with new games to try and sell the system. For example, most consoles bundled with a new game only have about 300k-1M.  I don't know the numbers off hand for the halo bundles, but ps3 bundles with mgs4 and others only had about 100k quantity. The arcade with double pack with lego indiana jones and kung fu panda was only about 1M , while there were at least that many of the games and a lot more on the shelves.

Wiimote and wiifit had shortages because that is how nintendo uses shortage to create demand. Nintendo always underships.

However, I remeber well when wii fit and balance board came out. The only thing available was wii fit the game. This example is different from kinect though, in that kinect has preexisting uses already and 360 owners can simply buy a kinect and a game, whereas the balance board was pretty much useless at the time if you didn't have wii fit. I see how the examples are similar, but what really sets them apart is that 360 owners can always just buy a kinect and see value in that product, whereas a balance board serves no purpose both to those who own a wii and don't own a wii.....without wii fit.

What the hell? No one creates shortages on purpose. That's extremmely stupid and seem to exist only in some delusional minds.

shortages increases demand which increases hype.

And you'r calling me stupid on top of it?

Most people that buy Wii's don't do it on hype.

And no, only delusional. And tell me one economics expert ar a book about economics that says that using shortages intentionnaly is a good thing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_shortage

nintendo did it AT FIRST in order to increase hype. They always do that. Look, every time the nightly news runs out of things to talk about, which they often do, they talk about flimsy news. Most times, news stations will report on the new "hottest item" during the xmas season. Every time they mention something is "sold out" it's free advertising for the product.

It's a way to market without paying for marketing.

Additionally, and this is the part I think you're not completely informed about; the shortages are often short lived. With huge shipments coming through at critical periods when the demand is through the roof. It's not MS limiting their own income. It's building up to a crescendo of sales volume. It's not like they are losing on hundreds of thousands in sales in november. Come december the prodcut will be available, or very close to sold out.

But yeah, keep the insults coming. It's hilarious.

Delusional isn't an insult. And your post is way too big for me to read.

Above: still the best game of the year.

i don't like you bark bark bark bark bark bark, bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark.

Woof woof woof woof, bark.

There is even more Kinect sensors for mark up prices on Ebay today than there was yesterday. I start to wonder if half of those who bought Kinect only did so to sell on Ebay. Some of the pics on Ebay shows stacks of Kinect ready for sell to those who are impatience to buy them at regular price.

tl;dr

Edit: you should've just posted that picture from the start. Then I'd know not to respond with anything factual.

There were 1,583 results for Kinect on Ebay. Not a huge number that would suggest a significant percentage of Kinect kits are simply being flipped although this does indicate a lot of flippers were speculating early that Kinect would be "the next big thing" for the holidays and command appropriate mark ups and really had no interest in the product itself as an end user.

It doesn't currently look that way though. It's looking like all of the kits are selling under the $200 mark

It should also be noted that a lot of the Ebay postings appear to be from individuals who have multiple Kinect kits for sale and likely buying all stock they can find to flip on Ebay.

Assuming MS has inventory issues (hopefully not as I believe they will want to ship as many kits as humanly possible over the holidays), maybe these people should be hoarding their wares until after Black Friday.

I'm sure there are countless employee's of various outlets from all over the world that are active members of this site.   You could just open up a thread and ask them instead of driving around town to various stores.

just checked out some people selling on ebay. Found at least 12 people with over 100 kinects!!!

Go into ebay and just send messages to people selling them with "buy it now" option and a "number available". If it says more than 10, send them a message asking how many they have!!!

Kinect will be what eye toy was = for kids.

Grown ups will get bored of it after realising what must be done in order to "game" using kinect >:)
