Forums - Sony - 60% of prospective Move owners Nintendo converts?

menx64 said:

Ok, So why move games are selling so little? are the 60% of the wii userbase or around 40 million,  waiting in line to buy wiisports hd, wiiparty hd, justdance hd?... How many wii owners also own another console, maybe half of them or maybe more... My wii is not collecting dust as many have said, I actually only own a Wii and DS, I dont have enough time to play a lot of games, so I am sticking to my consoles and so a lot of people do... Move is not going to be succesfull jus for selling 20 millions moves, but if it can lift software and hardware as wii is being doing since launch....

You are misinterpreting the numbers. It was never stated that 60% of Wii owners would buy move. Instead it was stated that 60% of potential move customers own a Wii. It is a very different thing.

This could just mean that 60% of the potential Move customers are PSWii multiplat owners.

These numbers are nothing to be proud of actually. The purpose of the Wii was to expand gaming, and it suceeded, and these numbers only shows that Move isn't expanding gaming, just making some people who already have a Wii buy a periphiral to a PS3 that they may or may not already own.

I LOVE ICELAND!

So the question is, why would 60% of Move's buyers want to buy Move when they have Wii? Are these gamers actually converting to Sony, or are they going to play both? Is this accurate do you think Sony is actually stealing that many Wii owners from Nintendo? Do you think both Sony and Nintendo stand to benefit from this or is it lop sided.

This must be written by logically-challenged.

The only thing the survey shows us is that Move failed to expand beyond Wii, as majority of those who bought the Move were originally exposed to motion-based controls by the Wii. But this alone doesn't mean Move stealing "that many Wii owners" from Nintendo. There may be like 100 owners of Move, even if 60% of them had Wii before, this counts to what? 60 Wiis? God, those numbers will scare shit out of Nintendo, lol.

To clear things to all of you happy campers here, the poll doesn't mean that 60% of Wii owners are going to buy Move. Sad now?

just to put things in perspective, here are some NPD numbers from September 09.

PS3 Owners
22% only own a PS3
78% also own one or both of the other consoles
42% also own a Wii
36% also own a 360

Assuming those percentages stayed relatively similar over the year they could sell Move to 28.35m current PS3 owners while still maintaining this stat they just presented without "stealing" a Nintendo consumer.

This also wouldn't be too shocking. The people who went PS3 or PS360 probably aren't as friendly towards motion controls. This would lead one to believe that the PSWii owners are more open to motion controls and would adopt Move at a slightly higher rate.

I myself am considering getting Move and I have a Wii, but I also have had a PS3 for 2 years now.

Anyways, percentages are fun, because you can mask meaningful data in a way that looks really impressive. Now, lets see some raw numbers

you know these are wrong... cause if you add.. then 0% own all 3 consoles =)

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

I have a problem with any survey that measures intent. Intent is free.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

42 plus 36=78 -> no margin for people who own both. (makes more sense now?)

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

I fit the bill. I had a Wii, then bought a PS3, now I bought Move.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

42% of PS3 owners own a Wii (this does not exclude that they own a X360)
36% of PS3 owners own a X360 (this does not exclude that they own a Wii)
42 plus 36 = 78% of PS3 owners who own one or both of the other consoles

22 plus 78 = 100%.

They do not state how many own all 3, but we can conclude that it is below 36% of all PS3 owners own all 3 consoles. If we looked at Wii owners and X360 owners we might come to a slightly lower % who own all 3 systems.

It works out perfectly. I didn't copy NPD data for Wii owners or X360 owners though.

really not the type of argument i wanted to go into with you lol, i meant it as a fun remark :p

let's simplify... 3 people 1 owns a wii PS3, one owns a 360 PS3 and one only PS3.

then you have 2 that own a PS3 and a WII or a 360... but there is no margin to have someone that owns all 3.

to have the 78% owning one or both, you need more than 42% owning 360 and more than 36% owning Wiis.
