Aaa, you're the Russian guy who had the Dustin Hoffman avatar. I remember you now!

There was Anne Bancroft as well, a pretty classic episode from The Graduate, and funny too =) But I've change it to young Koba.

Hmm, he was failry good looking in his youth. Guess being an evil dictator tends to put a little weight on a person.

Dune is definitely the best sci-fi book ever though the quality of the books worsened as the series went on. But the first entry in the series is a masterpiece. To put it simply The Lord of The Rings is its equivalent in the realm of fantasy. It's not just a story but a world in which the reader becomes engrossed, and even after decades the novel still holds up.

Dune, IMO, is more interesting and well written.  Either series is great though.  Stay away from any of the Dune books that were not written by Frank.  Those are pretty much just drivel.

Plus one from me.

Plus one from everyone.

I also didnt like books 4, 5 and 6 in the foundation series all that much. 1 2 and 3 were some of the best books I've ever read, better even than Dune, 7 (the prequel) was very good.

Dune definitely.

Watch the 4 hour version of the Lynch film.  Fantastic movie, albeit with some departures from the novel.  Some genius casting as well.

The Brian Herbert sequels and prequels are fun romps.  They get way too much hate.  Are they several notches below the originals?  Absolutely!  However, think of them as guilty pleasure, summer movies instead of a literary experience and your enjoyment will rise significantly.

I'm sure I'll annoy people saying this but I just don't agree with the Lord of the Rings comparison. The Lord of the Rings is one of those books which everyone tells me is great, I know I should like, but it just bores me beyond words! No comparison with Dune!

Maybe I'm just biased because of the long and boring LOTR films though...

Foundation is one of my favourite sci-fi series of all time. It's at the same time grand and detailed, epic and focused, simple and engaging. Truly brilliant.

Please don't lynch me for this, but I tried to read Dune, and I just couldn't. I forced myself to get about 50 pages in, and it was just far too confusing to follow. The whole family tree, the politics of Arrakis, I couldn't understand any of it. On top of that, nothing significant looked like it was going to take place. As far as I could tell, it was about a kid who became some sort of Arab messiah. I mean, how is that science fiction?

I really do need to try reading it again, perhaps with some more patience. But based on initial impressions of both series, Foundation is better by a mile.

Both Dune and Foundation were great series. I'm leaning more towards Dune though. The film did not do  the novel any justice whatsoever. David Lynch shat over the book and scarred my memories of the characters  forever.  Far too rushed, I reckon they could have have made the original dune into a trilogy, I think theres enough material.
