Forums - Sony - Why does Sony continue to abuse the PSP brand?

I don't think there's currently any confirmation that this phone is getting the PSP branding at all. It's getting Playstation-style buttons, so far that's about it. Chances of it being the PSP2 are practically nil, and since it's Android, it's not like it can play PSP games natively.

I have little doubt that Sony want to eventually merge those markets, but this doesn't look like the device that will do it.

P.S. I still want a PSP2 phone. I don't see the huge problem with having that function, is your anger focused solely on the Swedes or what?

I live for the burn...and the sting of pleasure...
I live for the sword, the steel, and the gun...

- Wasteland - The Mission.

If anything, this is a GOOD IDEA by Sony.

How anyone can call a 60 million selling console a FAILURE is beyond me, but I like this path by Sony.  Sony Ericsson is a drain on the entire company and basically has been since Day One.  When you have as many different paths as Sony does in hardware, it makes SENSE to use one brand to sell another.

Remember last Xmas and Sonys Best Buy Tv sales with a PS3?  That was perfect and something I hope Sony does more often.  Them lending the PSP brand to Sony Ericsson is right along these same lines.  It is high time the Ericsson purchase does SOMETHING for Sony, and I do believe this would lead towards that.  (gotta take it off Att only in the US tho of course)

I am very excited for this.  I have been waiting for a company to release a real game playing smart phone for awhile now.  I enjoy those regular games every now and again, but It is a bit annoying carrying around my phone portable gaming device mp3 player.  If I could do them all together, I would be one happy man.

And as for the Go.  Did it fail to sell well? Yes.  Was it a failure?  I would say no.  I think it was an experiement, nothing more nothing less.  An expensive experiement sure, but not a wasted one.  Im banking on them using the shell of the PSPGo for their new smart phone (taking some of the RnD costs out of the PSP2).

I think it's fucked up that SONY seems to have given up on the PSP. They should bundle a free $30 PSN Store voucher and 2 GB Memory Stick with the PSP-3000 at the current price point ($170) to drum up interest for the PSP among the younger demographics (the older demographics are a lost cause. A friend of mine with a PSP stopped playing on his PSP once he got a car and now only plays on his PS3 and PC. In places where the automobile is king, like in North America, marketing to the older demographic is a lost cause for SONY.) You can get a Nintendo DS Lite a popular first-party Nintendo game for less than the price of a standalone PSP-3000. That gives Nintendo an advantage with children, who have little disposable income. There are plenty of boys out there who would prefer a PSP over a DS because they perceive the DS to be "kiddie" and the PSP to be more "grown up". But the PSP price point is more steep, which can be a turn off to children. People underrate the potential that PSP has with male children. Boys have a strong desire to want to be a "big boy" and more "grown up". Sega figured that out two decades ago and that's why the Genesis marketing machine was pretty successful and it turned out to be a competitive #2 to Nintendo back then.

SONY also needs to put a lot more effort on the first-party front for the PSP. Too many PS3-lite releases for the PSP. Because western game developers don't want anything to do with the PSP it seems, SONY has to pick up the slack. Because right now the PSP is heavily reliant on Japanese software. That's why the only people buying a PSP right now tend to be jrpg fans. With a few exceptions of course.

WHY is this not considered trolling by the mods? Why!? he's even online and don't reply to his own thread, that's trolling proof number one. This is troll thread number one... You all know this fella ain't rooting for the PSP brand to get better, he just want to hate on Sony. Like this guy really think it's sad that the PSP brand is doing "bad"? don't make me LAUGH, he loves it! he's even wrong about everything he says... Look at SONY's PSP coverage on EVERY GODDAMN E3. They dedicate like half their press conference to this "forgotten" brand....

Everyday we see people get banned for almost no reason or for actually posting honest opinions with a little bit of feisty wording to it, but this guy gets to continue to spew crap and stealth troll all he wants. it's like the mods are too blind to notice the stealth trolling going on on these forums, because I see a lot of it going on and there are NEVER any action taken against it (i could even call these elitist bastards out, but I'm not. because if I do... BANNED!!!). does it have to be out in the open trolling? does one have to be man enough to come out clean and speak you gut in order to get banned? it's getting too fucking silly... you should really get some more intelligent mods on these forums, who actually can read people and call them out for what they really are....

I'll probably get banned for calling this guy out, "dissing" the allmighty mods or not writing on topic (WHAT TOPIC???!?!?!!) before he even gets a warning for his flaming/trolling or whatever you call this crap.. it's sad, very sad... I guess it's time to say my goodbyes... again, because this shit is getting ridiculous...

I wonder if I, a "Sony fan", went to the Xbox forums to call MS out on how they ditched the XBOX, yada, yada, yada (which is actually true, unlike this OP). Or maybe speak my mind about LIVE, RROD, Disc Scratching.. yea, I would probably last 5 seconds on the forum after clicking POST/MAKE THREAD or whatever... and of course... the thread would be locked for flaming/trolling in NO TIME.. now, for this thread, 2 hours later... NOTHING.... Not even a post from a mod....

Ok, what exactly have I posted that isn't true?  Do you feel that they put as much effort into the PSP Go's launch as they did with the PS3 slim's?  Do you disagree with Markus Rivers being an unlikeable character?  Do you think that the PSP Go wasn't a blatant attempt to milk the brand?  Feel free to tell me what I got wrong.

As for getting away with things you couldn't be any more wrong.  I've been banned for weeks for doing things that you're doing right now in this thread and that many posters  do here on a daily basis.  For example I got banned twice for posting off-topic in threads and yet you're doing it in this one and I don't see a ban for you.

Also if you think this shit is getting ridiculous then it's probably good that you're not a "360 fan" because it's 10 times worse for fans of that system on here.  If you can't put up with one thread asking a hard question of Sony then I can't imagine what it would be like for you if the PS3 got treated the same way Kinect has on here.

I think there gong to come out with a psp2 next year,I can't wait to see what it's like. lol

If a company (sony) turns in to a new marked (handheld) and ship 60 mill , it's a succes.. DS is a bigger succes, but thats not the point.

And offcourse they shall make the psphone.. (Not psp2phone) becourse the psp2 have to be a dedicatet "gaming handheld" to compite the 3ds.

2 yaers after realice... then they can make a psp2phone...:)

---------------------------------------------------------------
I predict 3DS, will reach 25 mill, by the end of 2011.

PSP is a console of two extremes:

on one hand, it's sold an impressive number and has very good japanese 3rd party support

on the other, it's been raped by the DS, UMD flopped, PSPgo was just a total cock up, etc
