Forums - Sony - Stinger: Sony sells ~200K a week in Europe and 200K+ in US week following B

@Kyros

after the 40Gb sku was announced, I remembered people were just getting their spades to dig the grave of the PS3

some people even went so far as to say that the Ps3 will sell LOWER IN EU due to the 40GB coming n 60GB going...lately they have eaten load of crow...

I was ONE OF THE FEW who thought that the random joe won't give a damn if he has his PES08, FIFA 08, COD4, R & C n uncharted....on the console

Looks like the 200k number may be shipped units, not consumer sales.

According to the google translations it says shipped. Perhaps someone who reads Japanese can translate better than google.

 That's the quote in question. It clearly states that US and Europe are both getting 200,000 units 出荷 (shipped) every week. This word is "shu-ka", whereas the word for sales would either be "uri-age" or "hanbai". Just to clarify, it's not an ambiguous statement. He says shipped, only shipped, and not sales.

Thanks. I guess it's clear then, it's shipped not sold.

White Devil, FTW!

Sony lies, always bend and twist the numbers. Proved once again.

Proved once again.. another 12 year old boy who doesn't understand that when OEMs talk about sales, they talk about sales to (re-)distributors, not end users. The numbers given are perfectly in line with what was happening at that time point.

What _is_ actually interesting is the fact that they were only able to ship 200000 units per week into the regions, that is only around 10-15% more than were actually sold. We could tentatively conclude that Sony has some problems with channel-stuffing for Xmas and distributors seem to be hesitant ordering larger quantities. What happens if a company has not enough channel-stuffing capacity we can see with Nintendo's Wii: Some areas are constantly near out of stock while other areas are constantly overstocked.. simply not enough product available to channel stuff evenly.

 The retail channel is full, total full. Shipped shoud be therefore very near to sold, and it is.

Technically if they sell a ps3 they sell it to retail.  I would say microsoft lies when they said that its impossible to achieve 1080p on a gaming machine.
