Or get those drawing tablets that professional artists use for digital drawings. They're amazing. :D

I think you all are missing the main draw here.
The idea is to make drawing fun and get kids interested and bring out their creativity.
The idea is similar to that of WiiFit. Its main goal is to making drawing fun and not a "serious" drawing platform.
I'm surprised by the lack of advertisement as well. I think the 3 different pieces of software available for launch are a good mix. The previews have all been positive that I have seen, and THQ did seem to be adamant they would advertise it. Hopefully the campain will kick in soon, otherwise I think they are really missing an opportunity.

Drawing is fun, you don't need a touchscreen for that.

You don't need a balance board for exercising. Regardless of what you think of Wii Fit, look how much that sold..
The idea is a very nice one. Pictionary in the family living room sounds like fun.

Like I said In my O.P I plan to support the UDraw and to be honest I suck at drawing and I normally don't draw at all...but UDraw looks like it could be really decent and fun. All of the previews that I have read said that the last thing they wanted was another Wii item but once they tried UDraw that they were impressed and saw potential in it. I also read that they were working very hard to make a marketing campaign but I have seen nothing yet...
I think people that are saying they don't want it because they don't think it will see much support but THQ already said that they have recently had other 3rd party's tell them that they want to make some games that use UDraw and that they are currently in the process of making deals so that they can make games for it. Not only that but THQ is going to release new games for it every 3 months or so.
The other reason I think that people don't like it is because its not a 1st Party item. The way I look at it is that UDraw is good enough to be a Nintendo made item. Also I have seen in many interviews that the original UDraw was big, fat, and made of wood. THQ said that Nintendo are the ones who made the final design and even used their money to make UDraw for THQ...so in my opinion THQ came up with the idea of UDraw while Nintendo made it a reality and let THQ publish it to probably get more 3rd Party support.
| Joelcool7 said: Well its a third party peripheral. It will push 100k I bet maybe 200k life time sales. Unless Nintendo suddenly suprises everyone and releases a game for it, in which case it could break a million. But Nintendo won't do that since THQ is releasing the peripheral. I see it going the way of UbiSoft's camera which UbiSoft said would rival Kinect. Yah one louzy game and never heard of the device again. THQ will release a few games and they may sell moderatly but the device will get burried. Also don't expect to see a big ad campaign. Remember Deadly Creatures? THQ said it was their big Wii title and the hardcore would go mad. They said they were going to advertise the shit out of it and that it was going to sell in big volumes. Well THQ's big gun, their highly advertised (Well they said it was) sold only 170k world wide. THQ deemed it a massive failure. I bet U-Draw will meet the same fate unless other publishers and developers support it in bigger numbers. |
UDraw will sell at least 200K in America alone in its first 5 weeks even without ads. It could sell at least 1 Million lifetime Worldwide without ads as well. With the ads THQ has promised(That I have yet to see) UDraw could become a success.
Nah no hypoe whatsoever.. i dont think it can do a just dance cuz of its pricing :/
The hardware should do fairly well - Nintendo helped design the thing - so they're not going to leave it out to dry. Someone, THQ or Pachter said they expected 1m units of the Tablet by the end of the year. Sounds pretty reasonable to me honestly. The drawing application looks like a blast and there are some videos on youtube showing what real artists can do with it. Its fairly good tech.
