According to Jesse Divinich, "Of all the publishers Nintendo is among the top for preventing price protection (discounts at retailers), which is why they maintain a high resale value on secondary markets such as eBay."

I can't believe how greedy nintendo is. Wonder how they force that policy on retailers. Goddamn. That is so lame.

But yeah, good that there is at least some retailers who don't want succumb to their pathetic demands. Somehow I feel that those few good retailers will not be getting their shipments in time or something.

Ninteno doesn't have to force anything. Nintendo creates a great product that lots of people want and sells it to the retailers at $40/game. The retailers must either sell for a loss or sell it for $50 and make some money. Retailers have the right not to stock the game if they choose. Since people buy the games anyways the retailers don't care. If Nintendo can't keep customer demand up, then they would have to sell the games at a cheaper price to retailers causing the price at retail to drop too.

Oh, by the way, you are greedy too buy working a job. Remember to take no pay, or possibly pay them to work for them so you can be like the almight Sony who is great by selling their console at a loss. If you want to talk greedy we should be talking about all the companies that are trying to take away consumer rights to resell used games.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

What? You posted that nintendo prevents discounts on their games...

As some have pointed out it's not all 1st party games that still has it's original price tag, or one close to it.

I can only speak for local prices but here Wii Sports Resort is now about 60% it's original price and Metroid Prime 3 is down to 1/3.

And the games that still sells like crazy will stay expensive. It wouldn't make sense to cut the price when there's high demand.

I agree that Nintendo should introduce a Player's Choice line though. They did in Japan, but that was just 3rd party games iirc. Maybe they'll introduce it later to get some extra sales when Wii is close to dead...

Nintendo games retain their value longer. People are less willing to trade them in. So, the price stays high.

they know people will still buy them. ex: the parent that knows nothing about video games and the child who just plays whatever game the parent gets them.

Why should they be cheaper? It was worth $50 in 2007, It is still worth $50 today. The only time price should realistically go down is due to decreased cost of production (only applies to hardware really). Or it is now outdated, which only occurs at the start of a new generation. Or if demand plummets, and all Nintendo games have beastly legs.

I thought prices are slashed when the demand is deminishing, atleast that's what the teacher tells me at school...  `_^
