is there a way to play in 3rd person? i would like that a little better

Yes there is but I would reccomend first person

And Oblivion isn't dull, its amazing seeing it.

and join the dark brotherhood, thieves guild and mages guild

This. The main story is not that good, but all the quild ones are really excellent.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Fallout 3 is a sci-fi/contemporary Oblivion (please, don't deny this), but I loved Oblivion and really wasn't too impressed with Fallout 3 so they are also different. I think it was the overall setting that did it for me, the Oblivion world is just so rich and lush and the world feels alive. It is somewhat repetetive in quests and locations but I saw past that and enjoyed it for what it is; a thorough and detailed open world RPG with quite a bit of depth and longevity.

I bought the Game of the Year Edition last year for PS3 and I am a huge RPG fan since the SNES. After all that great reviews I expected an excellent game....... It was shocking how boring the whole game turned out to be in the end.

The main quest lacked in depth. The whole time I was wondering why the character is participating in that main quest anyway. I could not connect to the story/world/anything in that game. In 40 hours that whole game was not fun after the first 20 minutes. I was hoping that it would get better with the story progress... even the quild quests were not satisfying for me.  There really is so much content.... but there was not much content for me to enjoy. It was just "more of the same" boring stuff. After 40 hours I gave up on the game.

Oblivion was easily the most boring RPG I ever played so far. That does not mean that it is a bad game... its just not a "thrilling" game for everyone. Since you did not like Fallout there is a really big chance that you will not like Oblivion as well.

I like Oblivion but not Fallout too much, there is a much different feel to the game. You probably like fantasy RPGs themed with castles and dungeons which Oblivion is like.

So that's why you never play it.

well I love fallout 3 but oblivions battle system looks boring I dont doubt that the side stories are good but ill have to look more into combat.

I like fable 3, Fable 2. But I hate fallout 3. will i like oblivion? it looks like fable but does it play anything like it?

If you don't like Fallout 3 there's something VERY wrong with you and you probably won't like Oblivion. I'd contact my doctor if I was you though, it could be a serious problem.

I've been set on beating a lot of games lately so I might pick it back up this weekend and try to blaze through it some more :).

IMO Fallout3 is Oblivion with guns. Though the F3 world is dulling and depressing, it's actually a bit more interesting and applicable to real life. While Oblivion has a brighter world, there's a lot more space of nothingness than F3.

And yes you get encumbered in Oblivion like you do in F3. Honestly if you don't like F3 I doubt you'd like Oblivion. But you need to give F3 a fair shot before you write it off. You mgiht eventually like it, and Oblivion as well.

Oblivion is a must have in this gen Toastboy and it's about time you get it!
