Fallout 3 is a sci-fi/contemporary Oblivion (please, don't deny this), but I loved Oblivion and really wasn't too impressed with Fallout 3 so they are also different. I think it was the overall setting that did it for me, the Oblivion world is just so rich and lush and the world feels alive. It is somewhat repetetive in quests and locations but I saw past that and enjoyed it for what it is; a thorough and detailed open world RPG with quite a bit of depth and longevity.
