Forums - Microsoft - The Xbox 360S, initial impressions

Alright, I got my brand new 250 GB Xbox 360S yesterday with the Forza 3-Alan Wake bundle. I'll start out with the bad stuff:

1) Dear god the Dpad sucks! Using the analogue stick is more accurate for typing with onscreen keyboard! O_o

2) Why can't I pause a download?! I had Alan Wake download as the first thing, but it took forever, and I couldn't pause to download other stuff for a moment and then let Alan Wake go on again after. GAH!

That's it for the negative stuff. Now for the rest (I'm using the new dashboard btw):

I love this machine. Seriously, I'm ready to declare this the best console out there right now (speaking strictly about the actual console). I think Microsoft have done extremely well with the interface, everything is really slick, feels connected and it's fast. It's so... cohesive! I am one impressed gamer!

My only gripes is that it was kind of confusing to locate the MAC-address on it, and using it in 1080p, some images are of noticeably low resolution.

On top of that, Xbox Live is leagues ahead of PSN in terms of connecting with people (which is basically the only thing I've tried with it so far).

I haven't tried out any games yet though (Alan Wake wasn't downloaded until I had to go to bed anyway, and I don't care about the other stuff I had access to).

All in all, I'm very excited about my new piece of hardware!

By the way, can anyone tell me if I can import Microsoft point cards? And if so, where can I do it from (I live in Denmark)? The UK (cheap points )?

#2--I'm pretty sure you can pause, cancel, or change the order of a download as well as set the system to download the content while it's powered off.  I've never downloaded a full retail game, though.  Play around with the settings a little more.

Enjoy the console and your games, though.  And be sure to check out some of the Live Arcade games--probably my favorite thing about the console atm.

Welcome to the XBOX family.

I've never tried pausing downloads, but when I have to download a large item/demo, I always do so at night so that the XBOX does it after I turn it off.  NOTE: that if you are downloading anything, and get on to play multiplayer, your 360 will automatically pause your download until after you are done.

The D-Pad is a legitimate complaint on the 360 controller, and while it is still my favorite controller due to size/stick layout, I understand the frustration the d-pad can cause.  There is a new limited edition being released soon that should fix it; but not reason enough to ditch the one you just got with your system I think.

Finally, I don't know about points as I always buy them off of Amazon, sorry.

Hope you enjoy your new system!

1. Dpad blows...common knowledge lol

2. Your download problem can be solved by moving the items you want to download before Alan Wake ahead of alan wake.

Make sure you turn on the "finish downlaods" option. Its smowhere in settings. Taht way the console shuts down and keeps downloading whatever you told it to while you sleep.

For pausing downloads AFAIK you can't outright pause all your downloads but if you have multiple downloads queued you can go to the blades (hit the guide button on the controller), go to the marketplace tab and go to "Active Downloads" and select the download you want to complete now and hit "Continue". It should pause the active downlod and start the one you just continued. They may have changed things in the new interface but that's how I used to do it.

Congrats on the purchase! Now add me :P ( IIXI Mo D IXII ).

I don't believe you can pause a download but I know you can go to Xbox.com and change the priority of the downloads and I assume you can do that on the Xbox too.

For the downloading, you can cancel it and redownload it. It'll start at the last place it was when you downloaded it.

Can you not just buy points from amazon, game or any other uk shop?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think you can only use imported MS points, when you have an account for that respective country.
