20. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

I sold my PS1 before the original game was released, so when I saw this version I figured it was a great reason to purchase a Game Boy Advance.   I brought this game game with me on a deployment and played it non stop whenever I had a chance.  One of the greatest SRPGs I've ever played.  I never completed all 300 missions because I accidentally sold some items that couldn't be replaced.  One of these years I'll redeem myself.

19. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (DS)

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl is the fourth entry into the hugely popular Pokemon series, and is really an important installment for me. It's the Pokemon game in which I've spent the most time on (over 200 hours) because it's the first Pokemon game where I discovered the competitive battling scene. It's like a brand new game, with new rules and new ways of playing. I gotta tell ya, it takes a lot of time and dedication to get your perfect team up and running. With perfect EV's, IV's, abilities, egg moves... it takes hours upon hours to get all six Pokemon up to the competitive standard. But when your team is finally complete, it's an awesome feeling. So here's to the team that I helped raise: Leafeon, Infernape, Regice, Alakazam, Tyranitar, and Garchomp. You guys were awesome out there, battling your heart out! I had a lot of fun battling others with these guys.

18. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)

Some call it Ocarina of Time 2.0, some will even call it a disappointment. I call it a triumph. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is an incredible game that continues to deliver the Zelda franchise's standard for quality. Not much has been added to the game as far as huge innovations go, but this is the most refined Zelda yet, thanks to its fun combat, awesome tools and gadgets, mind blistering puzzles, and fantastic dungeons that will test the mettle of every hero. The bosses are better than ever, and the side character, Midna, is a fantastic addition to the Zelda universe and the best side character I've seen in gaming. But, in the end it's all about the eternal struggle between Courage, Wisdom, and Power... and Twilight Princess lived up to the ongoing battle between the wielders of the Triforce. While some say the rise of Ganondorf in this game is a cop-out, I absolutely loved his role in the game. I have to say, he cemented himself as my favorite video game villain in this game, due to his sheer menace. The final battle was incredibly tense as well, and the game never tripped over its huge ambitions. What can I say? It's another stellar addition to the Zelda universe.

It's catch-up time!

20. Metroid - NES

When the original Metroid was released in 1986, it was unlike anything released at the time. In fact, to this day, there's still nothing quite like it.

The game dropped you into a massive alien world, without any form of introduction, or indication of what to do, or where to go. And I love that. And turning Samus from a disoriented stranger, who is barely armed well enough to defend herself from a lowly critter, to a nigh-unstoppable one-woman army is incredibly satisfying.

19. Super Mario Galaxy - Wii

Sure, Super Mario Sunshine was great, but when held up against the sublime standards of Super Mario 64, it undoubtedly fell short of expectations. Super Mario Galaxy suffered no such fate.

It incorporated motion controls without feeling intrusive, it concentrated on what Mario fans wanted; platforming, and featured more variety than any other Mario platformer released before it.

No matter what age you are, it's almost impossible to play Galaxy, and not crack a smile or two.

18. Silent Hill 2 (PS2)

The original Silent Hill was quite a revelation for me. I'd never really believed that a video game could be scary. Sadly, like a lot of other PS1 games, the most horrifying thing about it these days is the controls. Silent Hill 2, though rather more playable, suffers from some similar control issues, but that's the only knock I can find against what is otherwise a masterpiece of survival horror. Konami basically transferred everything that worked in the first Silent Hill over to the PS2 and then cranked it up to 11. Graphically, SH2 looks pretty incredible for an early generation PS2 game. I still remember how blown away I was, and they really do help a lot with the atmosphere and immersiveness of the experience. Genius composer Akira Yamaoka was in top form in creating the game's unsettling sound effects and hauntingly beautiful music; the sad yet danceable "Theme of Laura" is probably the best thing he's ever done. But where the game shines brightest is in its story, which is kind of funny because it manages to be even darker than the original. Whereas in the first Silent Hill you basically stumbled into a bad situation, this time you've come here with the intention of meeting up with your deceased wife... and it only gets worse (or better!) from there. Silent Hill 2 saw the introduction of Pyramid Head, who's since become something of a mascot for the series, and not coincidentally, it was also the first time we've had an "evil" protagonist. It's a plot twist that the series would revist, but never to the same effect. It was quite a serious mindfuck at the time!

High five!

18. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Wii

Twilight Princess gives you just about everything you'd hope for in a Zelda game, (incredible music, intense boss battles, razor-sharp gameplay) while supplying things you didn't even know you wanted in the first place.

When you compare the polish and content in this game to most other video games, it's just no contest. To create a game this large, with so few flaws, is just staggering.

#36 Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (SNES)

"Never knew Mario was such a crybaby..."

Yoshi! Having played a minor role in Super Mario World Yoshi returned in Super Mario World 2, and this time he (they?) was the star!

I just love Yoshi. His style, his abilites, his super-relaxed appearance. I don't remember when or how I got this game, but I remember loving it from the very start. The beautiful art and music in the opening sequence amazed me and when it was time to play it felt quite different from the other Mario's I had played, but it was so much fun!

The game's art is simply gorgeous and the music is very catchy; the ending theme has made me cry many a time. T_T (While writing this I couldn't help but search youtube for that song so I could listen to it again. I ended up listening through half the soundtrack )

Levels in this game are great. At first they are quite easy but they get hard towards the end and if you want 100% you'll have to be skilled. I've never considered boss fights in Mario games to be among the better parts but I really liked the ones in Yoshi's Island. The tactics to defeat them are varied; some of them are EPIC (the final boss!!!) ; some are just disgusting I don't wanna know how Yoshi escaped the frog's belly. NO! Don't...tell me. Don't destroy my innocent childhood memories!

17. inFamous (PS3)

This was one of the big surprises for me this gen. My hype for it had been very tiny to non-existent until I saw the 'Superpowers' trailer. That was the point where I decided to buy it and because there wasn't any other interesting game releasing at the same time I bought it day one. I couldn't stop playing it, I finished it in just 3 days and did all side missions. Therefore I'm incredibly hyped for inFamous 2.

17. Katamari Damacy (PS2)

Probably drug inspired. Definitely the best thing ever to come out of the so-so company that is Namco-Bandai. In Katamari Damacy you play as the diminutive Prince whose father, the King of All Cosmos, got hammered and erased all the stars. So he sends you to Earth to roll everything up with a sticky ball so that he can put them in outer space and set them on fire to replace said stars, or something. It's hard to say what's most memorable this game: the insane premise, the addictive as all fuck gameplay, the maddeningly happy music, or the art style that's simply oozing with charm. I'm actually going to go with none of the above. The thing about this game that really sticks with me is the massive amounts of emotional abuse the Prince has to endure. The King of All Cosmos is possessed of a cold, detached demeanor and has a hell of a mouth on him, and he just loves to heap scorn on his son. There's literally nothing that the Prince can do to win his father's approval (at least not with my rather meager Katamari skills guiding him). The King = my mom confirmed?
