I was a regular poster, I warned VGChartz about this multiple times and provided clear evidence. It was usually ignored or even belittled. That's why I rarely post here anymore.

But I am more a tech enthusiast, that has me interested in the PS3 first and foremost. When I stated so many years ago anti-aliasing could be done very well on the Cell's SPEs I often got ridiculed in the forums as well. God of War 3 saw great results using this approach and many high profile games including LittleBigPlanet 2, Killzone 3 and Infamous 2 are now implementing this solid approach as well.

The forums are sadly often dominated by fanboys, for example saying the XBox 360 was extremely failure prone for many years instead of this "being well within industry standards" as claimed by Microsoft even resulted in much abuse. Later of course they admitted this, but fanboys rarely say sorry for their past abuse and will usually find new ways to attack...

I could never have imagined so much negativety towards Sony on English languaged forums and Microsoft hailing/defense. Here Sony enjoys overall a most excellent reputation just like Philips, Microsoft on the other hand has one of the worst reputations in computer history (as for why just read all the anti-trust testimonials and the origins/quality of MSDOS).

I think such bias is reflected on many people who claim to be unbiased as well. IMO VGChartz seems to be run by biased people as well. So many adjustments, so many wrong estimates with regard to the PS3...


I also believe the same as you ps3 has been undertracked for a long time, unfortunately users like us tend to get ridiculed on here no matter how right we are 2.6m ps3's hanging around is just too many, I really can't take vgc seriously after the NPD comparisons by bhr and the move shipments vs sales on here, it's obvious that vgc are not accurate.

Sadly that forum isn't much better. I got banned there for saying *I* prefer the PSN over XBox Live. This for multiple reasons:

 

I think online gaming should be free, I don't like having to worry about if I or especially my gaming friends are still subscribed to XBox Live Gold. The PSN's flexibility Valve seems to hail nowadays and often more online opponents (for example Gears of War provided really small scale battles like 4 vs 4 max while even providing laggy performance with that, while for example Resistance 1 allowed for much bigger scale battles and was virtually lag free for me). And I liked the PSN exclusives much better like Super Stardust HD, Warhawk, WipeOut HD, etc and providing interesting extras such as a webbrowser, Playstation Home, VidZone, etc.

 

I think banning me for my personal preferences like that was really weird, I even provided the reasons why I prefer the PSN. And the weird part is that the only reason why I provided my take was I got tired of fanboys claiming XBox Live being superior as a fact (as this is not my view nor those of my buddies, we think the service is vastly superior).

I always used the sold to retail figure as the most important figure to use. This as this is the only non-estimated realworld data we have for global console sales.

 

I think to claim there are some 2.2 million more PS3s in stock at retail than 360s reflects bias (that's 4.4 times as many!!!). At times when the PS3 endured mass shortages in Noth America and Europe while the XBox 360 was oversupplied this was still claimed by some...

The 360 can't have only 44.5 million shipped. The Kinect is launching next week.

MS must have a big shipment planned that isn't apart of this.

Hence, expect that shipment gap to grow significantly.

Also don't forget the massive adjustment we have seen here on VGChartz in the past. The PS3 sales got adjusted upwards for more than downwards over the years, if the original estimates weren't adjusted that would result in many more unaccounted for PS3 sales, in the millions!

IMO that demonstrates bias and an inability to learn enough from past mistakes. IMO too often clear evidence was simply ignored until there was no other option to react.

Brett doesn't need to apologise or answer to you, it's clear a lot of unexpected PS3's are being shipped to countrys difficult for Brett to track, and past mistakes wouldn't help him, if it's difficult to track it's difficult to track.

Well it's for end of September, they wernt shipping Kinect bundles at this point.

38m tracked vs 41.6m shipped

lets say actuall sell through was 40m leaving 1.6m on shelf.

that would be a 2m difference which is an error of about 5%....

i say VGC is doing a good job given the difficulty of collecting good data for their predictions.

and to address the "VGC still not learing or biased etc etc", we have to understand that there are regions that are not tracked AT ALL! these regions are the new regions/countries where in SONY just released the PS3. Lets take an example, lets say Philippines, anyone tracking sales there? I dont think so. any way of geting at least an estimate of how many units were sold there? probably but i havent a clue how, does anyone know? most likely no.

as for the topic at hand, no, IMO, the 360 is gona do a Wii and sell like gangbuster to the casual market increasing hardware installbase like crazy. though IMO, software will also do a wii where in only the core gaming market will be purchasing games while the cassuals will be happy with a game or two that they will play during parties and stuff.

Sony knows how to bullsh** there´s no doubt about that... if we see NPD and MC numbers its on 1M - no way 2.5M are coming from Rest of the World.

So only fanboy believe those numbers... u know how the hell can sony had bigger Q than when slim Launched ? no freaking way baby.
