Forums - Microsoft - Kinect featured on The Ellen Degeneres Show

Basically MS is really smart. They took a step back and said, "What did Nintendo do with Wii that made it required in every American family home?" What they saw was Nintendo putting it out on the nonGaming mass market channels. So they copied this. However, Nintendo also went country wide and got people to play it for months after launch. I don't see MS doing this because it doesn't play as nicely as Wii did. That will be Kinect's fall. Wii was increadibly fun to play and Kinect thus far seems to have issues barring that same simple fun.

You probably never try it. FAIL..lol

Damn, talk about input lag.

She dances at the beginning of every show.

This makes me want Kinect to fail so hard right now... i just hate this commercial mainstream crap. Us (hard)core gamers have been supporting the industry for decades and this is what we get? The least Microsoft could have done is launch it with another system, like Xbox Play or something.

When did Microsoft say they will stop making games for the hardcore audience?

Do you also hope that the movie and television industry will fail because they sometimes make entertainment that doesn't fall within your tastes?

MS would have preferred Oprah, but she couldn't till Xmas, she's still tidying up all the mess since the last time she received Tom Cruise.

They did Oprah already; It was scary.

LOL, when reality surpasses fantasy!

I didn't know, but then I watched Oprah's video in this thread and so wished I kept on not knowing! And MS payed for that? And I'd bet they even payed Oprah more than Ellen... Oprah and her public looked so fake they were appalling, Ellen OTOH was really GOOD, she looked like she enjoyed it, her public was spontaneous, the demo showed very well what I thought even before seeing any demo, that if all is implemented well, Kinect is THE motion control for dance games. Every Kinect video I saw about driving games persuaded me more that Kinect isn't really suitable for them, except very short and casual races, but Ellen's demo instead is very good for Kinect and clearly show's what's best at. I'm not a MS fan, actually I'm always very suspicious with it and it wasn't easy to persuade me. What I think now even more than before is that MS should push what Kinect does well, if it will keep on trying to push it for things it isn't suitable for, it will damage it, if OTOH it pushes it for games like that demoed by Ellen, it could be very successful, it won't disappoint buyers, and any initial buyer lost by not selling it to people that already in the short run wouldn't like it anymore and start giving it bad word-of-mouth, will be more than paid off by longer and more consistent legs, selling longer to more people that liking it more and keeping on liking it in the long run, would buy more games for it and give it good word-of-mouth instead. Honesty and good games will pay, MS entertainment division just needs to keep at bay Ballmer's short term greed and paranoia.

Jesus christ...I don't know howmuch they paid Ellen to do that...but I am seeing 6 or 7 zeros behind the number...

I doubt it. You gotta remember the advertising industry is reeling right now. MS is probably getting a lot of bang for their buck.

Kinect advertising is gonna be legendary in the gaming industry for years to come.

I work in the advertising industry and have since 2005...its far from doing badly, quite the opposite. Also this isn't regular advertising. Ellen gets plenty of sponsors and she don't have to do anything but wear a watch or a dress...but for her to dance like this, Bill gates must have told her "if you do this, when you get home, there will be a new house on top of your current house:

Or maybe he made her find Melinda in her bed and she did it for free!
