Forums - General - Help with acting

Before i right this i know this is a gaming website but this threads in the off topic discussion so its ok.

So anyway, I'm 14 and i would really like some advice on what i want to do with my life: acting. I live in the UK in Northumberland and was wondering if anyone new if theres any good websites on the Internet that might help me find somewhere to audition: i know it wont be for a blockbuster movie but I'd just like to do something even if its a really small role because it would be a good way to eventually get a proper role.

Now heres my second problem: although the job I'd most like is actor I'd also like to be in the gaming industry if acting doesn't work out. But I'm really scared that if i go to an acting university and i don't make it big then i wont be able to get into gaming because i wont have went to a university for that kind of thing and i wont have the qualification, so i would really like some advice on what i can do.

And finally, don't say things like ''well you need to have the acting skills before you start thinking about auditioning'' or ''the acting world is hard and its very unlikely you'll become a big actor'' because there things I'm okay with, i know i don't have much chance but I'd still like to give it a go instead of doing some boring back-up job instead of trying. And about needing acting skills, I'd defiantly take acting classes before doing anything huge but so far i think I'm an okay actor, like doing things in the school plays like being Joseph in one of the Christmas plays.

I'd really appreciate advice on both my problems or maybe just some useful info on the acting industry.

be the character, don't be yourself, that's what acting is all about...

Join a theatre troupe. There are plenty of reasonably popular productions which require somebody to play the role of a young teenager.

Getting into film acting will be much harder.

Move to London. Probably more acting opportunities there. Try studying the computer thing at the same time. I honestly don't know if you necessarily haver to study acting at Uni. A lot of actors never studied acting at Uni (heck, Tomy Lee Jones never took an acting class in his life, and he's an Oscar winner).

You don't want to rely exclusively on your acting. You may end up doing gay porn if you do that.

Oh, and you lied about your age on your profile. Liar!

As well as trying to find a job as a young actor, do you do drama at school?

Because University Of East Anglia is among the top for Drama/film in the UK (one of my friends goes there), their film/drama programme has produced excellent actors, for example the current actor who plays the role of Doctor Who is from there. University Of Warwick is also highly ranked for this.

I've heard its an excellent Uni for prospective actors.

So think about that........and don't listen to people who say "oh its too hard", "too much struggle", "impossible to be successful"....if you think like that you'll never do well....be positive and you never know what success you may achieve!
