Forums - General - What happened to 'Real Music'

Radiohead, and Shiina Ringo are the Best bands/singer's ever imo, and they are still making making music today. Radioheads not underground.... at all... Shiina Ringo's/Tokyo Jihen's Japanese.

And don't be like zomgz he must only like new stuff. Van Dyke Parks, The Beatles, and The Velvet Underground, Thelonious Monk are in my top 10 bands/musicians ever as well.

But if you mean entertainer.
Like Elvis, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Fredie Mercury, David Bowie(I saw him and he wasn't particularly entertaining live anymore), Probably not. Eminem was close... though, I'll probably get "rap" isn't music etc.

There's been plenty of amazing music lately....but then again I really only listen to the music part of it and don't pay attention to the words.

Just look on the web. Plenty of great music is being made, its just not being played and pushed by the mass media.

As far as I know, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax are still making albums.

And I hate Queen.

it's out there, just harder to find now.....

Around the Network

Its pretty easy for me seeing as how I just subscribe to youtube channels that post filter, disco, french house tracks and alot of these djs are pretty good and its all very underground. Plus as long as Daft Punk is releasing a new CD then theres something for other mainstream artist to bite off. But I wont deny the fact that I still like bands like Phoenix, Passion Pit, Metric, and even more poppy acts such as Ke$ha and Katie Perry. I feel just being more diverse is better and then theres always some good songs playing or releasing.

I would just like to add my some of my favorite singles, EPs, and LPs that I've heard in the last month

The Phantom's Revenge - Charlie

Treasure Fingers - Lift Me EP

Metric - Fantasies (just heard this about a month ago)

Gorillaz -Doncamatic, its a step forward from Plastic Beach

Ke$ha - We R Who We R (its pretty catchy)

Far East Movement - Fly like a G6 (its pretty old but seeing as how I dont listen to the radio I just heard it)

Lupe Fiasco - The Show Goes On

MMMathias - I'm not a band - Crazy (remix)

and the list goes on its out there just be diverse with what you call music.

I honestly believe, because I listen to alot of djs, that a good sample can just be as "real" and be original as a original song. Its amazing what a producer or dj can do with a few seconds of music. Hell even Kayne West samples and everyone says his stuff is amazing

I am no good at grammar =)

DAMN IT! This EP is such a good idea

Soulja Boy killed it.

The auto-tuner happened to real music. lol

The first sign of getting old:  asking why music isn't as good as it used to be.  Before long, you're going to be scared of those young punk kids and saying "Ump!" when you bend over to tie your shoes.

I predict that in 10 years, the number 1 album (album?) will be from a group of singing unicorns.  Then, you'll wish there was an artist with as much soul and emotion as Justin Bieber.

Wheres my Vivaldi dammit. This Elvis guy sucks..... I'm kidding.

Just take heart that in 15 years these people liking current music. Will be in the same boat where where their "real music" went.

The OP is 19, which makes the thread even more humorous. What qualifies as good music, anything made between April and October of 2005?

Nope, anything before April 5th, 1994. Music held on a bit till MJ died, then music died as well.

On a serious note, I kinda like Disturbed and Three Days Grace. They're kinda ok. But the musical greats are either dead or dying. AC/DC is on borrowed time, Hendrix (my inspiration for music) has been dead for a long time, 1/2 of the Beatles are dead. Let's Face it guys, music is dying. Let's let it die gracefully.

Also, contrary to what most might believe about me, I love Eminem.
