Forums - Sales Discussion - 46,000 Wii Remotes sold each day in the US

It's nice they are using precise terminology.

Not some PR BS like 'Wii controllers'.

Yep. Actually, their PR department should be fired. They should have issued the following statement -

"Around 120 Million Wii controllers sold in the US."

But Oops, I forgot. What about Motion Plus?

"Around 135 million Wii controllers sold in the US".

Oh darn, I also forgot the balance board!

"Around 150 million Wii controllers sold in the US"

that's a lot

That's an average of around 2 controllers almost 2 nunchucks per console.

Not that awesome if you think about how wii was promoted as family system and with games where 4 players can play on split screen.

Considering most people i know have 2 controllers for PS3/X360 too I'd say it's probably industry standart.

Shipped of course.

Wiimote > Move

That's what I thought initially, but no. In their press release (which you can see  here for example - http://www.nintendoeverything.com/53904/) it says

"In the United States alone, more than 65.3 million Wii Remote controllers have sold through to consumers."

Nintendo have their own tracking service, so have access to "actually sold to consumers" numbers.

They also have NPD. Here is the original press release from Nintendo rather than these incomplete website posts.

http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=26097

If you read through you'll see that Nintendo says "according to the independent NPD Group".

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

Considerng most people I know have 4 Wiimotes I'd say the 2 controllers for PS3/360 is subpar. When you get back to me with actual NPD numbers for PS3 controllers sold through (for example you do realize lots of people use the PS3 primarily as a Blue Ray player, right? And local multiplayer is not that dominant in PS360 games, so many people won't buy more than one controler) then we can discuss the wiimote numbers vs. the real industry standard (as opposed to what you preceive to be the industry standard based on your surroundings).

More Wii remotes sold in the US than the entire UK population.

Does this mean we overtracked wii by around 5 million?

Americas Hardware

ConsoleWeekly (change)Total
DS 103,761 (-12%) 49,519,960
X360 90,053 (-2%) 25,270,325
PS3 68,613 (-2%) 15,652,688
Wii 65,647 ( 7%) 35,102,377
PSP 19,683 (-8%) 20,051,603
PS2 7,731 (-5%) 52,312,945

This tells me there should have been 35.1 million wii controllers sold with hardware, and they only sold 30.41, and I dont know if in America there are bundles with 2 controllers? because in europe we do, this would mean we overtracked them even worse, right?
