Forums - Website Topics - Posting with good intentions

Also a mod accused me of being a lesbian. That has nothing to do with this topic I just wanted to share...

@OP

Simple, because your on a negative site. There are tons of locations on the internet where the posters post with good intentions. However your on a VG forum and I suspect other forums where conflict is the norm. The DP9 forums for example are filled with good intention posts. It's a discussion forum and a sharing of ideas. The reigns are tighter in regards to the concept of the topics. It's all about RPG discussion. Here it's more about VG Opinion and news.

So it all depends on the nature of the forums and the people who are controlling it.

Well, I'm looking for individual answers though, but thanks anyway.

I don't know a single reason why an individual would want to post a negative post, I really don't, and that's what I want to know and want people to think about. Why do it?

To relieve frustration at the concept/item/person in question. To express a powerful negative opinion.

You're telling me you've never made a negative post?

The reason why people are negative is because we are all human and subject to at least a small amount of irrationality.  Asking why people can't be more positive is like asking why we can't have world peace....its a fantasy that will never happen due to human nature.

I have, but that's not the point. I'm saying that I've learned by now that there isn't any reason to. If you're frustrated about something, let it go. If you can't let it go, talk about it with someone, but don't let it dominate how you feel more than is necessary before you  can let go.

It's not something you just do though, I'll make a negative post from time to time too, but I'll immediatly regret it, because I can feel the negativity affecting me.

I'm generally curious as to why so many people on VGC act and react the way they do. Yes, I'm talking about posting with good intentions on the internet, and I seriously don't understand why this doesn't happen more. (I'm naive, I know) because theyve been tormented over a period of time one isnt born like this they become a negative poster over time of takin abuse from other posters and learning whos who on the forums

Some people provoke negative answers from their fellow posters, some people put fellow posters in booths and will look at anything they post as negative and some people will attack back at fellow posters and rile things up further. Why? I just don't get it. What can possibly make you feel good about doing these things? i dont get it either they must get a kick of being a cyber bully

I don't want to mention any names, but I'll just give examples of these things.

I was on the IM (back when it existed) once, and were talking to a few other guys. They were monitoring a thread where one of them was trying to bait another member into flaming, so that member could be reported. What the hell?

Another time, a mod asked me to report another member for a fairly innocent post, so that member could be punished, simply because the mod was tired of him. Again, what the hell?

agreed ive also encountered similar experiences it also works in the opposite where you report and nothing gets done b/c i believe some posters have alliances with mods

In a recent thread, a bunch of posters were celebrating all the awesome games coming out this holiday for the PS3, and a fellow poster came in and made an innocent joke (I thought it was rather funny) about PS fans celebrating multiplat games on their console, and many of these PS fans, took this joke as a direct attack, and started defending themselves. Why do that? i dont get this either ps3 has alot of exclusives for 2011

If there is one thing I've learned over the past few years, it's that being defensive about things and trying to fight fire with fire is not going to do any good. You're not going to be happy for doing it, so why bother? agreed just let them stand there with there fire

Take a step back, relax, take a deep breath and realize that you don't need any of those things, they won't do you any good. yeah or go out do some yard work get things done in real life

There is nothing wrong with informing people of course, but if you know that someone is attacking just to rile up other posters, or refuses to listen to reason, why not just ignore them? Direct your time and energy to a place where it will be appreciated.

And why spend your time and energy assuming that certain posters will always be out to say something bad about something you love? It's a total waste, and if they really are out to do just that, the mods will handle them. Don't bother with being overtly defensive, because it breeds negativity. agreed i just make my threads now and let it be i dont even bother with all those flaming posts in my predictions threads

A perfect example of all this is highwaystar101. He just said that he is staying out of all threads discussing creationism and evolution, because he is arguing with people who he can't sway. So why bother, right? And in the last two weeks of not doing so, he has been feeling much happier. I guarantee you those two things are connected. yeah me to ive been using vgc in general alot less and nothing but good has come of it

So, honestly, why be negative? Ignore the stupid stuff that isn't worth your time and use your time and energy on constructive stuff where you'll be happy with what you're doing and your work will be appreciated.

Have fun with the fun stuff, ignore the stuff that'll bring you down.

Hey! I worked hard for my admin/mod protection. Just because you can't get any doesn't mean you need to bring the rest of us down :P

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

I would disagree that there isn't any point in arugeing with someone who won't change their mind.

I know that many times I've seen arguements between two people and it's changed my mind simply because one side had a large amount of logic and numbers and facts while the other side had almost none.

In between two argueing forces, I like to think there are a number more of reasonable people who's minds may be changed by the facts.

Of cousrse, once you hit 10 pages then it's probably time to take a step back or if the person goes into stupid generalizations racism or nationlism or something, but still...

not argueing with unreasonable people simply makes unreasonable arguements sound reasonable.
