Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: “No Reviews of Kinect!”

It seems to be getting the same annoying embargo treatment like the rest of their games, gah no Fable III reviews till next monday

Around the Network

Sony got blasted in the reviews for Move games yet they still had the balls to allow them to be reviewed early.

MS needs to sack up and let the bad new come if that is the case.

They are refusing to send kinect devices to reviewers... however they are at malls and macy's stores around the country. The device is not being hidden.

I think that media reviewers are likely to test out and report on every single detail they can, however, the software is not finished yet. It was just last week that they just added the ability to use the neck instead of the base of the spine for better detection while sitting. I think that they have one or two more ideas for the final software product that they are still working on. I have a feeling that games like kinect sports and kinect adventures are finished products and that is why they are on display. However, the dashboard interface etc. are still being worked on so we will just have to wait on that. Even the fall 2010 dashboard update is still in beta, so how can the kinect interface be finished yet?

Look at all the ps3 fanboys talking about how laggy it is and that this and this and this don't work based on media releases 4-6 months ago where they knew they were testing an unfinished product. It's in Microsoft's best interest to make sure the software is at the final release stage before they send it to reviewers.

Where are the GT5 reviews? Why haven't we seen any yet? It's because the software isn't finished yet. Do you want the review to talk about this glitch and that glitch and how it's unplayable in it's current state? No. You want them to use the final product.

Kinect given out as part of a select public beta

Kinect has been shown at just about every big show this year and publicly played

Kinect has been to hundreds of events - This week for example get along to Chessington World of Adventures (For UK regions may very) and play it for yourself. Visit www.kinect.me to find out a venue near you.

So are they hiding no... Are they controlling how it gets released... Hell yeah!

Wow... some of the reactions in here...

If people want to believe that MS are prepared to spend $500m on advertising a product that is crap and essentially doesn't work then fine.

It amazes me the lack of awareness of what is going on right now in gaming.  Even gaming journalists seem oblivious to what has happened in the last few years.

Despite what some would have you believe there ARE definitely different groups of gamers now at large (call it core and casual if you like - the title matters not).  The target audience for this initial launch of kinect is NOT your Halo, MW2, Bioshock, GT5 or FFXIII audience.  It is the Wii fit, Wii sports, Wii party perhaps even Mario Kart audience.  Review sites like this cannot help such a launch and can only harm it.  MS know this. We all know this... or at least we should know this.

MS are being smart, the best reactions for this will be from the mainstream media and from word of mouth.  The traditional gaming press will likely be very elitist about it and probably a tad negative.

Thats my take anyway.

I agree. MS is just playing it smart, and why not? It is good business. And I dont think it is about trying to cover anything up. Sure a lot of the games will be subpar, but that is to be expected with new hardware. The big thing here is that the people who like these types of motion games will be the ones who go out and buy Kinect and ultimately enjoy playing them.  This is a totally new gaming experience that will thrill millions. I personally wont buy Kinect anytime soon if ever, but I look forward to how it will change the gaming industry. I commend MS for pushing the envelope and making controller free gaming a reality.

Windows Millenium

Windows Vista

the last attempt at Windows phone which was discontinued after few weeks ?

vista was software... but anyway did windows vista sell? yes, did it work? yes  (people may have grumbled, but it essentially worked and was succesful in sales)

did they spend $500m advertising that recent phone?  no they spent next to bugger all and dropped it.  They would have dropped kinect way before now if they felt it wasnt a flyer.

try harder.

RROD says hello. I'm sure they spent loads of money advertising the 360, still it was/is one of the most faulty electronic devices in history. They have spent LOTS OF MONEY on faulty products before (like, EVERY SINGLE Microsoft OS I have owned), and I don't see why Kinect should not be more of the same from Microsoft.

One of the reasons they are spending so much on advertising might just be a way to "fool" enough people to buy the device. And they don't want people to review it? And you guys are making the lamest excuses, that the Kinect does not cater to the gaming websites. Then I guess you never want any reviews for any Kinect game ever releasing? I mean, since Kinect is not for us and the gaming publications, why are we even talking about it on the gaming forums (with only hardcore gamers present. As mentioned many times here, casual don't search these forums for info) of a gaming publication / gaming site?

I guess none of you want any review of this Steel Battalion game? I mean, it's not like it's catering to you guys anyways... lol... you guys really crack me up. Trying to defend this practice from Microsoft. IF Kinect actually worked like a charm, Microsoft wouldn't even think twice about giving it to reviewers. They would've given them out like candy making sure every reviewer got their hands on this perfectly working, innovative piece of tech. If it's actually working as advertised, then Microsoft should grow some fucking balls and get behind their product.

Microsoft might fool you guys, but they certainly ain't fooling me, ever again...

Its alright...your mom and yongers sister will buy 2 Kinects each so you will still get to check it out.

MS is not trying to dupe customers. They are specifically targeting the type of people that will enjoy this experience while offering a glimpse of promise to hardcore gamers. In any event they are not hiding their device. It has been on tour in several countries and a lot of people are putting their impressions up online. Here is a pretty good unbiased one  from a few weeks ago by someone who is a fan of FPS.

I think this is different, because people have Fable III in their hands.

There really is no point of trying to explain this here. It makes complete sense but people on this site blame microsoft when they drop a slice of pizza at home... They will jump at the opportunity to blast them now.
