Forums - Microsoft - Kinect : $500 million in marketing, Will be bigger than Jesus!

Kinect is part of next generation. Why make a new system when the current system is going well? Xbox Live launched two years before the launch of the Xbox Live. XBox Live has been the main success story of console gaming: introducing popular  online console gaming. Dreamcast online bombed and did not work on dial up. Improved Broadband speeds has made online console gaming possible. Online console gaming continues to grow in popularity. Kinect does not need a controller and it relies upon a person's body movement to control a game.

Casual gamer market will increase with mass marketing and convince more people (young and old) into buying Kinect and XBox 360. 360 pushes towards 70 million consoles as it extends its user base and captures.

$500,000,000 and money spent on Kinect is a small price to pay to capture the casual gamer market.

The Wii needs an upgrade to compete with the HD gamer audience.  PS3 has implemented its own motion device to capture the casual gamer market. The Wii is being attacked on two fronts: casual and hardcore by the HD twins.

Move over Wii: Kinect has arrived and has something unique to offer to  XBox 360 gamers. Motion control revolution continues with Kinect and PS Move. Who really needs a PC when you own an XBox 360?

Actually, jezus wasn't so big. Rumor has it that he was only 5 ft tall, not exactly a giant.

Everything you ever wanted to know about Kinect is right HERE

The more they spent, the funnier it is when it fails. I doubt it though.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

So you are one of these guys that will want to eat their own words after holiday sales, i think.

Don't forget:

Wii still has, and will have the biggest userbase this gen, esp for the casuals. And Wii is less expensive.

The motion-controlled games libary for Wii is bigger and will be, even if Kinect would be a huge success. Revolution? With Just-Dance-copy, Wii-Fit-copy, Wii sports-copy and EYe-pet-copy?

That's the Revolution every king is afraid of, ROFL!

Wow, they plan on kicking ass this christmas huh.  The only problem I have with this is 1 thing.  They can afford 500mil on kinect but they cant afford 100mil for a Halo movie?  WTF!!!  Get us a Halo movie now you bitches!

it may happend (at least for 5 years)

BUT, remember a new console will still be released perhaps in 2012 making the current gen way less interesting ...

Well I don't think there is any rush. Sony is still reeling the losses from PS3. Nintendo's next console probably won't be much more powerful than the current HD consoles.

Perhaps MS may want to beat the competition to the market. But I don't think they'll just push the 360 aside like they did the original Xbox.

oh, that is sure

but in 10 years, if the 360 here, it will be like the PS2 right now : an old console most people dont want to play anymore (at best)

BTW :

NOW, I hope everybody know where the Alan Wake marketing budget and full developpement cost for 6 AAA title Xbox360 have disappaeared ...

still happy about this news ?

Why are we pretending the money they are spending in marketing is all they have? Its not like they had to choose between marketing and new IPs. For whatever reason MS chooses to support 3rd parties and they received quite a few console exclusives in the process (L4D, SC: Conviction, ME, and others coming).

Halo Reach made $200 million in a day. Live generates billions. They laugh at $500 million. MS has what we call in the business, "fuck you money."

oh, they have plenty money
but even when you have plenty of money, you want to spend it as good as possible
so you FOCUS

Since last E3 (I mean the 2009 one) exclusivity hype or marketing has been pretty low outside HaloR

Indeed, I forgot that SCconviction didnt receive a good marketing campaign either ... all people were already turned to HaloR and Natal

Well a few years into the life of the PS2, it already began to feel primitive. Especially compared to what we were seeing on the original Xbox and PC.

To the contrary, we are about five years into the 360 and its aging much more gracefully.

Also, the PS2 was horrible for online gaming. The 360 could have a prolonged life just for online gaming.

Holy shit there are a lot of people that just don't like MS. I see a mentality that will always find ways to have a problem with MS, all under the guise of true "concern" about the industry. All these people really care about how much MS is spending? You really think they can't drop this kind of cash on Kinect AND fund 20 AAA titles? And if they end up not supporting the core in the future, the core will bounce to whoever does support them. It's a funny thing to see people "debate" when there isn't a chance in hell that either view point will bend, even slightly.

So how many DVRs will be set to record Oprah for the first time ever? This place is going to be a real cluster fuck if there is any type of issues with Kinect on Oprah today. The anti- MS/Kinect threads will be oh so abundant, lol. I doubt that MS would risk it though if they weren't pretty sure that it will go smoothly.

I was hoping to avoid the Kinect questions by my kids this X-mas but this shit's gonna be everywhere, hell Nickelodeon alone is gonna do me in.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.
