Nintendo is the 2nd biggest company in Japan, behind Toyota and in Front of SONY. i think they are doing just fine and dont need to do a sega. History tells us we need at least 3 major competitors so if Apple or another Massive Electronics company or Software Company can break into the market like SONY (or that big they can do an Microsoft and continue despite xbox failing hard against PS2) we will have the SONY vs Nintendo vs Microsoft for a while 

Are they behind Toyota again? At one moment they were actually topping Toyota I think it was during the brakes failing debacle, where a lot of Toyota vehicles had faulty  brakes and they knew about it, sales went down, stocks went down, and they had a lot of lawsuits against them.

yea but now they have recovered and the hybrids are being made in Australia now so stuff like that wont happen anymore. but Toyota is massive compared to Nintendo and that one billion lost from that incident did nothing to hurt the toyoda family's fat wallet

Nintendo is one of the most profitable companies in the world, the most profitable in Japan and the only console manufacturer to make a profit on every console sold since day of release. If any console manufacturer would be better going 3rd party it would be SONY, their franchises would light up the sales charts on the 360 and they wouldn't have to contend with making billion dollar loses every year due to their hardware.

i think SONY has done find considering they have sold like near 300 million console units which is more than all of nintendo and Microsofts Consoles (not handhelds combined) and around half of all consoles sold. 

No Nintendo would not do better. Hardware is more then half their profits , sure their software could keep the company alive on its own but its the hardware that gives Nintendo an edge on the competition. Infact I think Nintendo would be the last to abandone the console industry. Out of the three Nintendo has the most to loose if they were to leave the hardware to another company.
