No Nintendo would not do better. Hardware is more then half their profits , sure their software could keep the company alive on its own but its the hardware that gives Nintendo an edge on the competition. Infact I think Nintendo would be the last to abandone the console industry. Out of the three Nintendo has the most to loose if they were to leave the hardware to another company.
