Forums - Nintendo - played Epic Mickey wasnt all that

You can't base your opinions on an epic adventure game on 5 minutes of gameplay. 5 minutes into Fallout, Final Fantasy, Zelda or Spector's own Deus Ex you're likely to think their just overated, substandard FPS, JRPG, Platformer and Stealth games but 5 HOURS in and you think it's the best thing ever.

These kinda games, along with Lord of The Rings and Silence of The Lambs aren't fun. They have a completely different appeal. You can judge Mario Galaxy or Modern Warfare on a quick preview but this is different.

@azreal  i appreciate your clear headed view and your opinion is valued BUT it was more than 5 mins and epic mickey is a platformer so what makes it different from Mario???? I can judge Mario from a quick preview but not a game in the exact same genre????  Final fantasy and Fallout are RPGs those are a completly different kind of play style

Epic Mickey seems to be a slower, more mellow kind of platformer that gradually opens up depending on player choice throughout the game. Mario, on the other hand, aims to deliver solid gameplay within the first 3o seconds, but Mario usually ends the game with the same moves he begins with.

@salnax  ok that makes sense maybe I was approaching it from a strictly platformer point of view.  On a side note I made 2 other threads praising Micheal Jackson and Sonic Colors both of which are Wii games but on this post I dont care for a game its all venom. I thought the HD guys were bad but some of the Ninty fans take the cake. No one said I was lying about playing those two games (didnt actually play MJ, BTW)

also played Goldeneye it was pretty good, just wished they showed the single player and had the Wiimote set up available. gonna get it anyway

Mickey is an RPG Platformer without anything to actually make it an RPG. No leveling or stats but it still follows the same basic formula as Oblivion, only with jumping.

I could compare Modern Warfare 2 with Fallout 3 and say MW is better because it has more exciting combat, a better range of guns and Multiplayer but that would be ignoring everything Fallout is trying to do.

And by the way, the paint and paint thinner mechanic is probably unintresting because it's an early level. At the start of Portal you spend you're time opening doors to the other side of little holes in the floor. It gets better

@azrael  having actually played the game I didnt see any of the RPG elements you speak of.  you cant compare Fallout3 to MW2 they are complete diff. genres. I compared Mario and Mickey because they are in the same genre just like I would R&C even though its more action oriented. I have Portal and that game grabbed me as soon as I started playing the same with Mario Galaxy i got it as soon as I started playing. I wasnt getting that feeling playing Epic Mickey thats all im saying. It is possible that it will get better but its also possible that it wont. You've yet to play it I only played about 12-15mins so im going to have to go with my gut on this one.

And why should I believe you even played it? Not to mention you have given the only negative impression the game has had ever so far?

Speaking of epic, Epic Mickey looks pretty bad. (Now might be a good time to mention this disclaimer: I keep an open mind, of course, about all games before I get to play the final product. I’m perfectly happy to have my pre-release impressions proven wrong, as they often are.) Did any of you see Warren Spector demo this game on the web broadcast? This is childish, but the globs of paint streaming out of Mickey’s paintbrush reminded me of the South Park episode in which Mickey has the Jonas Brothers spray foam on their prepubescent audience. Epic Mickey apparently features Disney characters that have been “forgotten and abandoned.” Smee from Peter Pan was one featured example. Can’t wait for the Uncle Remus quest.

Halfway down

EDIT: I'd just like to make it completely clear, Epic Mickey is my most hyped game and I think it's gunna be awesome.

I played it and spoke to the developers at E3 for an hour (not Warren, unfortunately).   I found a fantastic platforming title that enjoyed calmer pacing that most platformers with different 2D platforming elements mixed in as clever segways to new segments of the game.

Is it a Mario killer?  Not realy.  But a damn good game regardles.

Yeah sure.  I've played (insert game here) and I didn't think it was good at all.  Very mediocre.

My credibility is unquestionable so don't buy the game.

hey! i played (insert game here) too, and i thought it's worse then you think! so you are wrong!

and my credibility is even unquestioanabler!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
