First of all, PS3 never saw a 1 million sales week. It's strongest week was last year at 989k, and without the assistance of the PS3 Slim effect, it won't ever get another 1 million sales week. It could break 800k in the week before christmas, but with Kinect having less competition during its release, it may just steal the show.

This thread is a good reference of sales:

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=116786&page=1&str=935723633#

and it shows PS3 sales are more similar to X-Box 360 2009 holiday sales. However without any big exclusive title between Move and GT5, PS3 Holiday sales may just be, like you said it, poo.

I think the people at Sony really messed up this fall. Except for the PS Move, the PS3 has no big name exclucive games until December 2009! I mean it's spring had a better lineup, and someone at Sony should have done what MS did with GoW3, and they should have delayed their own GoW3 to fall 2009.

I think PS3 yearly sales will be sub 12 million this year, and the 360 lead will grow exceptionally thanks to Fable and Kinect comming out soon. Also with some CoD console bundles, and early map packs, the 360 is likely now to get a heavy boost in November sales.

As for December, the PS3 will probably at best only match 360 sales. The 360 will have had soo much more to offer this fall, CoD: BO exclusive console bundles, and early map packs, Fable 3, Kinect, Halo, and ressonance slim effects. More people buy 360's now then PS3's and this will pretty surely remain the situation for 2010. With Kinect advertizing, and a very strong fall, it's unlikely to see dominance switch from 360 to PS3 just because of one game. It will be a great game, but generally Novemeber is a stronger window for a game to sell, and Kinect has that. Sony lost the battle this fall, and it was a battle they desperatly needed.

The PS3 had a chance at overtaking 360 overall sales, but with such a lackluster fall lineup (1 game in December and Move), and sales being over the hill (past the peak year in sales), PS3 will unlikely never catch up to MS.

I'm just interested to see how well PS3 will sell this fall. Will the difference from 360-PS3 be greater then the PS3-360 difference last fall? What will PS3 yearly sales end up at, 11 or 12 million?

I think this fall, the more interesting battle is Wii versus 360. They seem to be stronger compeditors saleswise, and gamewise this fall. I'm betting 360 sales will be closer to Wii then PS3.

I wouldn't go discounting PS3 just yet. Now if GT5 were to be delayed to 2011 I would say that they have no hope but as of last month they were still confident in their 15 million projection and that the first half of the fiscal year had even come in above their own estimates. I'd wait until we have Q3 (Q2 fiscal year) results before writing them off. Speaking of which, anyone know when the companies are going to report their financials?

Don't see PS3 doing well this fall, they really messed up. To the point where 3rd place is essentially garenteed.

@Michael-5 -> great analysis!

Now I'm looking forward to see if Kinect has the potential make the 360 to outsell the Wii this Christmas.

How do you go from "finished, can release any time" in Octrober 2009 to a March 2010 Japan release that gets put back to a Worldwide "holiday season" release

Something very odd here....

This is exactly what I was thinking. This better be the best racing game EVAR! Seriously though, can't Sony put their foot down and force PD to release it already. Apparently if they leave it up to them they'll be tweaking the game until the PS4 comes out.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

It would indicate there is a problem with the game for sure for it to be delayed only a couple weeks or so from release. But if that is the case then in my opinion they made the right call. If the game needed work then work on it. So many titles are released early to simply cash in rather then be the best game they can be. Pro Evo Soccer is a good example of it.

But that said the game was teased in like 2005, that is such a longtime to work on a game. If the game is not the best racing simulator of all time then they have come up short. The cost to make the game will be massive. Paying all those staff over 5 years as'well as the actual developing costs mean that Sony will have spent a fortune on making this game. It is 100% the right thing to delay the game if it is not at that high bar level.

If GT5 were to release sometime in December then I could see the PS3 pulling out a 1 Million week. A combination of the holiday boost and bundles will make sure of that ! But damn, how long have they been tweaking this " 10% ? " I remember PD saying the game was 90% done sometime in January.

Who's the best Pac, Nas, and Big. Just leave it to that.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

well many games this gen took about 5 years to make. look at ff13. Also versus 13 looks like it will take 6 years.

I agree with nightsurge. People going out on Black Friday look for deals and unless they're some rather ridiculous deals for GT 5, which I don't think is likely as it will have only been out 3 days (assuming it releases that week), then I don't see why it would perform drastically better than if it were releasing however many weeks earlier. That and if it really boosted sales that much, you'd see three or more big titles there, instead of nothing, which is what we have right now.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

Wii sales are slow now, but they always pick up over the holidays. Without a Price cut, Wii > 360 saleswise this fall.

Personally I think the Wii will get a Price cut just before Kinect comes out, to help kill Kinect's popularity before it's even released. $150, even $180 for a new Wii with 2 games, and the massive library it has, or $300 for a Kinect ready 360, with only a handful of Kinect titles.

for current 360 owners it's even worse $150 for a Kinect, or $150-$180 for a Wii? hmm.....

This can only hurt PS3 sales.  Simply put the later in the season in US and Europe the less cash that will be available.  The idea that sales will increase is nuts.  The more money people spend on other items the less chance of impulse purchase of GT5 and/or PS3.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Awwww, Carl thinks that GT5 actually exists and will be released one day. How cute!

It will come out and be 3D rendered at 1080p 50Hz, with photorealistic graphics just like the bullshots. Not.
