Forums - Nintendo - What do you love about Wii

- It has Nintendo games, which are the highest quality games IMO.

- It's the one console that hasn't really fallen victim to the Hollywood-ization of video games. By that I mean most of its games don't have the extra BS like the games that try to be movies, just pure gameplay. I despise the cinema style games for the most part so the Wii is a no brainer for me.

- The motion controls and unique ideas (for some games at least)

- The Homebrew! err.. I mean the Virtual Console :/

Well, who buys Nintendo systems for third parties?

I own a Wii because I couldn't enjoy gaming without the first party games coming from Nintendo. And this gen, Nintendo had a stellar first party lineup. Mario has been especially fantastic on the Wii. Well, we dreamt for ages to get a Donkey Kong along with 3D and 2D Metroid games, 2 Mario in 3D, one Mario in 2D, Kirby, Zelda, Punch-Out, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros...

People are always seeking for something new, and that's great. But you know what is greater? When you find something new in innovation. That's all about what the Wii is. It is just about fun. It throws out the pathetic graphics concept in the bin and scream: We'll rock your socks with good old reborns and beloved series!!!

My god, DK, guys! DK! It's an event in itself, since it has been so many years since the last real DK country game!

Nintendo has been exceptionnal this generation. All the Mario galaxies, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, even NSMB blows out of the water the old classics.

And looking for new IPs, Wii just got plenty! Of course, they are not blockbusters, but when do blockbusters mean quality? Try Muramasa, Dead Space, World of Goo... try them!

That's exactly my point. I love that... Hollywood-ization of video games.

You see, it seems like video games are following the same path as movies. Epic story, astonishing effects, hollywood scenario, poor originality and innovation.

Amen to that. It really irks me when people say Wii has no good games, or very few. The people that say that usually mean "few blockbusters" because they seem to believe the amount of hype/advertising a game gets dicates its quality, when this is not the case at all. Wii has tons of hidden gems that despite little or no hype, are still great games: Zack and Wiki, Muramasa, De Blob, World of Goo, Lost Winds, Little King's Story, Trauma Center, Dawn of Discovery, Red Steel 2, Tiger Woods, Boom Blox, Sin and Punishment, Madworld, House of the Dead: Overkill, Resident Evil: UC, etc..

The Wii is the only nex-gen console It offered something new while the "others" just beefed up graphics. It changed gaming forever making it more accesible for everyone regardless of age to enjoy gaming,The graphics don't matter but the important aspect "fun" is what truly matters and Nintendo surpassed that wonderfully, whatever your skill any one can play and thats what Wii stands for.

The Wii has the greatest variety,it doesn't rely on shooters and thats maybe why people have problems with videogames they think "There must be violence and other negative things in it".Thats not what games are about it providing fun for everyone and thats where Wii really shines.

10 years from now we will all reminisce about the Wii era like we did about SNES, Wii has done something no console before it has ever done,it deserves respect of everyone even if you dont agree with me,you need to relize yes it has.

@guiduc  you actually liked dead space extraction??? i thought all Wii fans hated it cause it was a stupid on rails game, finally someone saw it for what it was. I almost forgot about homebrew, holy crap. yeah thats almost worth the price of admission right there. dont mean to be an ass but where are you guys getting all this variety from? of the big three consoles the Wii is seriously lacking in more than one genre. No simulated racing games, one (bad) 3d fighter, no WRPGs. And the core games they do usually get in some of those categories are just ports or multiplats. If im wrong please let me know

<------------------------------------------------------ and the nintendo franchise revivals (love punch-out! and cant wait for DK)

Pretty much everything about it (except lack of big budget 3rd party games).

I love the controls, I think they work great, the dual analog set up I hated so much it almost caused me to lose interest in gaming, I find this set up much more intuitive.

The 1st party titles have been stellar for the most part. Mario especially has been fantastic on the Wii.

I lke the download service, Virtual console is great for downloading old classics I regret selling, or games that I never played to start with ( I never owned the SNES so this was a great way for me to get to play some of the classics that I missed on that system). There are also a handul of unique WiiWare games that are amongst my favorite games on the system.

My favorite part of the Wii is how it has convinced many of my friends and family members who previously had no interest in gaming to give video games a shot and now  they enjoy plaing games with me, and many have decided to buy the system for themselves.

This!

Seriously the wii has a variety of games,. I admit that the smaller capability of the hardware has affected it and affected it's less than impressive 3rd party lineup. But imo it also helped in having amazing games(be it 3rd party or 1st) that were about innovation and just pure fun!! Like most said, mario has been fantastic, and the revival of donkey kong and overall 2D platformers make it my favourite console this gen!! But that's just my iopinion i guess!
