I play most of the games I buy only once in my life. If I'd ever cared for replay value of games which have a proper ending I wouldn't be the adventure game fan I am.
The only ones I play more often are the ones which are meant to be played forever anyway (e.g. Civilization I, II and IV, Anno 1701, Settlers II, SimCity 2000, Master of Magic, any Tetris, Clubhouse Games...).
There's one "forever" franchise though which I don't ever want to touch again: The Sims.
Back in 2000 I bought the first Sims game and played it for some weeks. I thought and still think it was another typical, simple-yet-brilliant Will Wright gameplay idea, but unlike SimCity playing The Sims wasn't fun, felt very strange and just isnt' for me.
For some weeks I searched for jobs on a virtual PC in a game on my actual PC, I told my avatar to got to the toilet and forgot to go there myself, I tried to built my virtual dream house but in real life the last thing I'd want to do is building a house, I tried to make as many virtual friends as possible but in real I'm glad that most of the people I ever met will never be my friends, I sent my avatar to the gym regularly but in real life I think gyms are one of the saddest inventions of modern society and I'd rather commit sepukku than visit one myself.
The strange Sims experience 10 years ago prepared me for a future gaming experience which I decided to avoid either when it became popular: Online gaming.
