Forums - Gaming - Sega pulls crappy Sonic games!

Well its official, even Sega has realized they have produced a lot of crappy Sonic games. Infact Sega thinks all these crappy Sonic games are hurting the little HedgeHog's image. So guess what, Sega is pulling many Sonic games from shelves or and/or stopping manufacturing many games to make them unavailible.

This is what Sega’s SVP of EMEA Jurgen Post had to say “Any Sonic game with an average Metacritic has been de-listed,” infact many Sonic games released in the last few years are being pulled. TItles said to be on the chopping block include everything from Sonic Unleashed , Sonic Riders and even the Wii's Sonic and the Black Knight.

Even some more successful Sonic games are being pulled to help polish Sonic's image. Jurgen Post had this to say about the more successful games being delisted. "We could make a lot of money on back-catalog Sonic titles," Post says, "but let's keep the number of Sonic games available under control. Otherwise you can have cannibalisation. If there are ten Sonic games on the shelves, with people seeing Sonic Rush DS or Sonic Rush Adventure, this may not help our overall strategy."

So there you have it Sega has realized its mistakes and is trying to clean up Sonic's image. Will this be enough to help replenish the greatness of Sonic in the 90's? What do you think of Sega's plan to pull all of the average and below average games from market?

Dumb, given that A: by metacritic standards, that means purge pretty much everything and B: This may very well run contrary to sales, which are kind of more important (as both Okami and Just Dance could tell you)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Umm...I liked sonic unleashed...

So they're off the shelves now? and also link pls.

BTW, they're doing this because Sonic Colors will be awesome!

Which version...

I beat the 360 version... I really had to force myself to complete it. Ridiculously hard and just not fun.

I haven't mustered up the strength to finish it on the PS2 version.

Lets hope they keep Sonic Racing on the market. That was actually a good game. Too bad for poor sales .

This is a really odd move. :

I mean, what ever happened to letting the customer decide what he/she liked? While none of the current gen console Sonics are the epitome of gaming greatness, I've enjoyed each one (except for Sonic 2006, I'll never play that one. ). Despite MetaCritic's decree, I've had fun playing these games.

Still, this is only taking place in the UK, so that's an interesting move for sure.

All this said, I hope the best for Sonic Colors. Looks like Sega thinks this game is the bee's knees.

Plus to the post saying this only effects the UK. According to Kotaku Jurgen Post, Sega senior VP of Europe, Middle East and Africa. Meaning for all of europe Sega will be pulling and delisting these titles also in Middle East and Africa! I hope they don't do it in North America, actually I already own all the Sonic games I like!

Oh shit... they're actually letting reviewers decide what games they keep on shelves?  That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.  If every company did that, I wouldn't be able to buy half my favorite games.

The 360 version. The werehog levels were tough to play through and a pain but 3-4 of those sonic levels were mindblowing...made me feel like a kid again. Later ones have some real challenge...the baloon jumping one took me hours to beat. Plus I liked looking for levels in those hub world...getting the shoes that let me reach new areas etc

Wii version I tried but didn't like as much.
