Forums - Gaming - GameSpot: Final Fantasy XIV Review (4/10) :(

Final Fantasy is a declining series, but that it would hit this low that fast  even among critics is really bad.

Above: still the best game of the year.

I played the beta and I agree with all of those points. They don't communicate the game mechanics well at all to the player and the interface made almost no sense :/.

I wouldn't be surprised if they even cancelled the PS3 version...

Yeah I agree, the interface was so terrible and it didn`t became natural. Getting around and exactly knowing where to go could be annoying when using the city map instead of the continent or world map. And then there was a bug which made me stuck and i stopped playing the beta. Yes i know thats what happens in beta`s, buggs.

So this is how we handle our main franchises, Squenix?

FFXI didn't release with a AH because something about the economy, they are doing the same thing with FFXIV. I really don't know why this is needed.

As for rating an MMO 2 weeks after release, its like rating a game after playing it for 30 minutes. They probably didn't even finish the first story mode mission.

Yup, that review is pretty spot on.

And for the people saying "give the game a chance, it shouldn't be reviewed yet," screw you guys.  It's not our fault the game is bad yet we're the ones being punished for SE releasing the game way too early.  If the game isn't ready to ship, either don't ship it or take the bad reviews you get.

This is the second time in as many days I get to use this quote--

A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.

A delayed game can cost ten's of millions extra, with a bad game we have more chance of making profit - Square enix

?

Patients is a virtue.

Have you even played the game?  There's no excuse for how awful it is.

I understand MMO's are large projects and I'm fine with the first few months having issues, but all the problems FFXIV has cannot be fixed in a month and are pretty inexcusable.

I'll say it again, there's no reason we should be punished for SE rushing out the game.

it is pretty bad, but there is potential. My plan is to play out my free month before I dicide to cancel, and wait until they fix everything at a later time. They could fix a lot of mess before my free trial ends too. So while I play for free, I'll be patient until I make a final judgement.

edit: almost rank 20 gladiator. hehe

You know, Deskpro, when we plonk our hard earned money on a game, we expect perfection, or at least a playable game. We do not want a game that "Might have potential".

Everything about FF 14 inconveniences the player.

I'm assuming you didn't read my whole paragraph. I'll keep playing and have fun while my free trial last. Will they fix everything when that happens? maybe.

by gawd, every new final fantasy is increasingly becoming bad, I think maybe they need to put a stop to the series and create a new one

Looks at other SE games this gen.

That wouldn't help much either.

This is Square Enix, so expect to be dissapointed lol.

-They need to fix Wada. Or boot him out.

-I'll like them to make the controls, keyboard and mouse friendly.

-open that auction house I see that is closed in Limsa Lominsa. (I can see that auction house symbol from FFXI in there.) Maybe they have it in other towns. Or, just for show and tell.

-They'll have to upgrade the UI. Upgrading the UI will take hours, or even half a day.

-Increase rate of regening Anima, and doing guildleves

That is all my "fix it first list"

I'm pretty sure they can fix this in a month or two, three max. Maybe four.. If they can't then I'll be angry. They should have taken care of these issues sooner.

I don't craft, so I can't comment on that. I don't have time for it lol.

Now time to compare my experience with FFXI. I know its been out in Japan on PS2 a whole year before it got a western release on PC in 2004 right? What I find amusing is that they added German and French auto-translation, plus Lv85 cap in FFXI not long ago. So, I find that interesting since those are already in FFXIV except the cap is rank 50. They are making progress lol.  I can all ready see a big patch coming soon in the future though.

And this is exactly what I'm talking about with people thinking there's a magic easy button.

  • I'm not sure how much involvement Wada had, but this game was almost completely outsourced to China.
  • Agreed that they need to make it mouse and keyboard friendly and this would probably be the easiest fix.  The lag would not be an easy fix.
  • L.O.L.  Fixing the UI would not take hours, it would take at least a month and that's even assuming they got it right on the first try.
  • Sorry, increasing the anima gain would be the easiest fix.

The lag in the beta was worst. Compared to now, it is a hell of a lot better in many ways.

The easy fixes is always the best.. imo this is the most important things to get done first.

Upgrading the UI takes hours once they have a solution for the issue followed by a maintenance. Give them a month, I'm pretty sure everyone will turn their tongues around.

But this is an MMO, the way they make money is by keeping people playing, not with initial sales.

If they had delayed it they may have made a game good enough for people to stick with, now it'll probably be cancelled within the year.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Any one still care this isn't coming to 360? (yet)

Probably not very many people, I know I don't.  Hopefully they can fix it up for the PS3 release, that may reignite some interest...
