The only problem id have is if my coffee table messes up the sensor, or couch. Im more worried about stiff like that then play space, 6-8 feet really shouldnt be a problem for most living rooms by any means and its pretty much what we already knew.

| nightsurge said: Are you saying your TV is closer than 5 ft from you? I do hope you are talking about a bedroom or dorm as that is the smallest living room space I have ever heard of, and if you have a TV over the size of 32" that is wayyy to close to be sitting to your TV in the first place. |
watch some of the apartment finding shows on HGTV and you'll see a lot of people in tiny rooms with basically enough space for a Couch, a walkway, and a TV through their entertainment area.
The thing is, the people who live in those cramped quarters are typically the 18-25yo males who live in apartments rather than the 10-18 kids who still live at home with their parents (so long as their parents don't force them to play videogames in their bedroom) Also, people in the US tend to have much larger living spaces than those in other countries. So I wouldn't say 6-8ft of space isn't stretching it for a significant portion of their intended users.
As for TV size, if his couch is 5ft away, I would assume he is viewing the TV from 6ft away (you don't sit with your head at the front edge of the couch, but you don't stand on the couch either). But, at 5ft viewing distance, he would need a TV that is 32-38" for optimal viewing depending on how good his vision is.

You guys know that you can create more distance by putting the sensor on top of your tv / on the well over the tv right?

I'm just going to say that you can play closer than 6 feet from kinect. If the game happens to require to track whole body, the distance depends on your height... I guess you could use a webcam to measure the distance needed for you to play.
(don't own a webcam so I am not sure of what kind of lenses they use)

the fiancee owns the living room in which video games are banned because she doesn't like them. but that's how much room i have in my man-cave and yes,..it is a pretty tight fit with my tv (40"). i'd have a bit more room (distance) if i shifted everything 90 degrees but then my love seat wouldn't fit in (the room is 5 sided so it's a bit of an akward setup no matter what i do). |
40" tv and a 5 ft viewing distance. Jesus Mother Titty Fucking Christ man. Your eyes will burn.
You would have to move your head to see the whole screen.
5 ft equals a max 22 " screen.
8ft for ideal? Tokyo (and cities similar and university students) won't like this

mostly it is all about personal comfort.
According to THQ the fill angle should be 26-36 degrees of your vision. So by my basic calculations, at 5Ft, you shoudl have a 31-43" diagnoal TV and still have a comfortable view by THQ standards. The TV viewing resolution/distance charts you can find on the web seem to reinforce my calculations.

QFT
2 meters is nothing.
Everybody who ever played Wii Sports in front of their own TV should know that anything closer to that is dangerous.
Absolutely no problem.
i'm having problems with motion controllers this gen...=/, Kinect requires 3Mts, and Move requires 2,5Mts...i'm fucked up...2,5Mts is TOO much for a normal living room, who the fuck has that much space between the couch and the TV?
