mostly it is all about personal comfort.
According to THQ the fill angle should be 26-36 degrees of your vision. So by my basic calculations, at 5Ft, you shoudl have a 31-43" diagnoal TV and still have a comfortable view by THQ standards. The TV viewing resolution/distance charts you can find on the web seem to reinforce my calculations.
