Forums - General - Federal minimum wage is unconstitutional

As an aside, tackling deficits would be a great way to reduce taxes in the long run. This year, the UK Government will pay £43 billion in interest on its deficit - that's the same as 11 million people's income tax, or the entire collection of corporate tax.

Conservative Libertarians are  Calvanists. Neoliberal economic policies that have failed miserably through out the world.

Conservative Libertarians are the Tea Party rednecks. Policies/values that would do more harm than good to society.

Here are some of the policies/values Libertarians, Radical religious right believe in:

http://02varvara.wordpress.com/2010/09/30/simpletons-for-a-“simpleâ€Â-world-don’t-forget-they-can-vote-that’s-why-you-should-too/

The government should “stay out of people’s lives”. Here is a short list of their policies:

  • No minimum wage laws
  • No protection for trades unions or trades unionists
  • No protection against discrimination of any kind (After all, we must protect the “rights” of bigots)
  • No public schools (Can’t afford the fees? Well… wash floors!)
  • No Social Security, Medicare, Welfare, or Tuition Assistance, no social assistance of any kind whatsoever (You DID want freedom, didn’t you?)
  • No Unemployment cheques or Disability Compensation
  • No funding for the arts and humanities (Russia funds the Bolshoi… why can’t we do the same for our equivalent?)
  • No workplace safety regulations
  • No environmental protections (Don’t forget… Richard Nixon founded the EPA!)
  • No federal aid for mortgages
  • No Veteran’s Administration or aid to veterans

It's curious how some conservatives define themselves Christians, read the Gospels, but don't ever manage to understand a word of them, particularly the part about every time they will have denied help to anybody needing it, and particularly to children, will be considered as having denied help to Jesus himself.

I define myself as agnostic, not Christian ...

Christian conservatives understand that their religion "commands them" to personally be charitable, not to offload the work to a highly corrupt bureaucratic nightmare of a government. This is why when you walk into a homeless shelter, food bank, or most other charities that serve the impoverished you will find that the vast majority of volunteers are christian conservatives.

I agree with him.

It'd be an incredible world if the government didn't take 30% of everyones income. Imagine the living standards of the poor and middle class that had far less taxation.

Ultimately, major spending such as the mentioned (health care, pensions, ect) should be dealt with from a state or personal level. Many of the programs the government has that were listed (Medicaid/care, social security, ect) are utter failures, which cost much more than equivilent private programs.

Over 40% of the U.S population pays no federal income tax.  How exactly does cutting taxes help them?  I believe you need to have less ideological purity and mmore real data.  As far as up to individuals, unless I get help. I stand a distinct chance of never becpming employable for health reasons.  I was told I need over $2000 to cover a gap insurgey expenses that I don't have.  By the way, the costs to administer Medicare is far less than the costs toadminister private insurance.

Wait a second. If over 40% doesn't pay federal income tax, then how am I doing as a part time student worker for a public university making a bit of minimum wage.

You should be looking at getting a refund at tax time.

This past year, while I didn't pay a whole lot. I did not get a refund. (had to pay <$50)

Radical Republican Joe Miller goes on to say unemployment benefits, Social Security, MediAid, MediCare are unconstitutional.

The Government should only provide military and police forces with small tax rates. Public spending is a waste of tax payers money and unconstitutional . A lot of reforms and amendments would need to be overturned that breach the original Constitution constructed in the 18th century. He goes on to say child slave labour laws are in breach of the American constitution.

Should the American constitution from the 18th century be strictly enforced? Do you support Miller's stances on these controversial issues?

I am late to this thread, and only read the first few posts. Someone might have covered this...

First off, he is not for removing a minimum wage, he is just against the federal government setting it. As he said in the video you posted, that his state has a minimum wage higher then the federal one.

I find it funny when people react to Tea Party members views, who have no idea what there views are.

A Tea Party member wants to limit federal government. Not all government. Just because they don't want the Federal Government doing something, does not mean they don't want it done.

Look at it this way. The EU is a collection of governments. How would you feel if the EU just took over every law for the 27 members? Each country could not set there own labor or civil laws, they could not chose how to teach there countrymen. The EU would set all those rules, and they would pass a law that says no country can have a law that counters it.

That's what has happened to the US. When the US was founded, it was far more like the EU is today. The Federal government was giving a limited set of rules that the states had to follow, and the states were allowed to make up the rest. Over the last 100-150 years or so, there has been a huge power grab, and now the states have no power at all.

Tea Party members see this as a bad thing, and I do to. Don't think just because someone doesn't want the Federal Government involved in something, that they don't want it governed. That's just not the case.

Education should be done at a  federal level. My main reason is that when I was a kid and had to move  from  New Jersey to Texas, El Paso.  I had to learn Spanish at a pretty high level and I never been in a Spanish class. I had to already do essays in SPANISH! I find that such bull how you have to adjust to another state education program when you move and you can fail because of that.

Education is done at the federal level, so how does that help you?

The federal government did not get involved in education until 1953. Before that, We were #1 in education. Today, we are somewhere in the mid 20's.

Why do you want an organization who has proven time and time again to be poor at something, you keep doing it?

The average single guy from the age of 18-24 today:

Assuming this person has a job on taxes spends in NY...

1. Mass Transit: from $1000-3000 a year.

2.  Sales Tax: $1200 (modest)

3. Utility Taxes: $188 (based on a usual apartment) (not including cell phones and such)

The numbers above are based on a friends complaint.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

No,  the only thing that federal has to do with education is funding basically. State has control of education. Why do you think education is diffrent from state to state? Have you ever notice there is certain requirements for each state or district that is diffrent. Half of my credits didnt go through because it wasnt the classes that were required.
