Forums - Nintendo - Iwata talks about 3DS price, people won't support high priced software

I'm confused about the talk that N64 games were $60 plus, they were definantly only $50 in the US i didn't pay $60 until the Ps3/ 360 time. It seems people have paid very differant amounts based on their region, but I remember ps1 and N64 always being $50. $60 is to much and many games that I would otherwis buy if they were cheaper become rentals. Industry loses to overpricing, yet I don't because I will rent if it does not seem worth overpriced $60.

From the very little I remember of the 4th gen, here in the U.K SNES/Mega Drive games were RRP at  £50.00 ($72.49)

Nintendo games were usually $50. Third party titles would vary depending on cartridge size.

Good. I wouldn't want to pay $60 for a 3DS game :P

I would not pay 60 for a 3DS game or any handheld game for that matter. If next gen is anything higher I will shun everything to the bargain bin. Outrageous what we pay now for games.

Why do you pay $60 for console games then, you are supporting the high prices already

Games should be different prices depending on the cost to make just like how new ds games range from 19.99 to 34.99. My guess is that most will go anywhere from 29.99 to 44.99 I don't think they'll go to 50.

I have no doubt that most nintendo and square's games will be at the high end of the cost range.

Just think Super Mario 64 ds was a port of a n64 game and it cost 34.99 and the graphic's on that game didn't even change from the n64 at all.

edit: ok maybe it will go to up 50. Just looked at FF crystal chronicles for the ds and it 39.99... for a ds game. The 3ds will have better graphics plus 3d effect, voice acting, FMVs, fully ochrestrated music so...

Bold: Matter of opinion. It was higher resolution on a smaller screen. Therefore it would automatically look better. Same thing when you cram an HD movie onto a 1080p screen that's only 19 inches.

Italicize: No. The next Zelda won't even have fully orchestrated music. And the only Wii game that did have it was Super Mario Galaxy and it's sequel. Also, StarCraft II had it. But that's a PC game. There just isn't enough space for orchestrated music on a 2 GB cart.

That depends on how long the samples need to be and how nice the compression rates are.

Also we have no particular indication of what Skyward Sword's soundtrack will be like in terms of orchestration; Aonuma was very dodgy about that question, and when he did answer it was that things had yet to be decided.

SM64DS' graphics did upgrade from the N64 version in more than just the resolution. Character models were noticeably better (just look at this pic) as were the particle effects, and certain characters and objects went from 2D sprites to 3D models (coins, pokeys). It looked the same artistically, but to say that there was no technical upgrade is wrong.

If Iwata/Nintendo were so worried about the high price of the games, they could do something quite easy :

Bring back the "Player's Choice" games!

It's not that hard, is it?

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I was going to mention character models but I just got lazy.
