Forums - Sales - Financial Times Germany: Wii at 30.2% worldwide market share

I saw the Wii will have 60% PS3 25% 360 15%

360 is in its prime now and is getting beat by a Weak PS3, PS3 will gain more steam once it lowers around the price of the Wii in a year or 2. Wii will continue to expand the market.

The Wii price cant go down so much as the others .Most people that would buy the system at 150 or 200 buy it just the same at 250 with a game .

Current numbers point to Wii dominating ,specially in the USA .The scenario put by the latest numbers and trends would be the Wii dominating in USA but not a lot over the combined 360+PS3 ,winning in Japan but a 60-40 or 65-35% against the PS3 and winning too in Europe but by not much against the PS3 and definitely below the PS3 and 360 combined numbers .In some markets as Italy ,Germany ,Spain ,Portugal and others the PS3 would win ,in others as France and UK the Wii would win but succumb against the combined PS3 and 360 numbers .

In any case I just dont want to accept that the way weaker machine and the one with the worst current and future lineup will just own traditional gaming and turn everybody into Wii Fitters and Wiidogs rabids with just a little niche for hardcore games in 2-3 games for year .

The Wii will be the first system sold for 50$ with a game. When it's that cheap, how could anyone refuse to buy it?  People will buy extra's for spare rooms.  To say that price would not affect the Wii's sales is ridiculous.  Price always affects your sales.  Price your item too high people won't buy it.  Nintendo has the upper hand when it comes to pricing their system.  They will consistently make money after each and every price cut.  They can afford to cut the price whenever they feel like it.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Face it guys Wii's won and in a few years will have 75-80% of the market

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

The way the game industry works that is once an established leader is set, everyone will focus on it to minimize development costs. Once that momentum is set, the sales will snowball and the fringe consoles will start to drop. That has happened pretty much every generation.

The industry is driven by profits, multiplatforming only works as a business model early on when there's no established winner. Companies do not want to have to make the same game for multiple systems with unique programming requirements if they can just target one big one and work. So far, the PS3 especially have shown that companies are not making much of a profit with these big huge epic $20-$40 million games that sell a whole 200-400k copies.

There's just too much risk in trying to put so much money in one basket (see Midway with Strangehold and Eidos with Kane/Lynch, Factor 5 with Lair). You will see that companies will soon realize this business model will make them go out of business and will start readjusting what games they make because of something much more substantial than fanboy's arguing on a msg board, straight flat numbers showing their return on investment.

At the rate the PS3 is selling I wouldn't make too many assumptions about what its future software line-up will look like; for the first year of the Gamecube's life there were several large and important videogame properties which were supposed to be exclusive (or at least available) for the Gamecube, which were never released for the Gamecube because of its sales. After months and months of delays, and that all of the major third party PS3 games being released are available for the XBox 360, can you really be that confident that any particular games will be released for the PS3?

Much like the Nintendo DS, it doesn't matter whether you can accept that the weaker system with (in your opinion) the weaker game line-up has won ... You can sulk all you want, and you can insult gamers in general for choosing a system that offered something new at an affordable price, but this doesn't change the fact that the Wii is going to continue dominating for the rest of the generation.
