Goddog, I made a forum for us to use, to make it easier for us to communicate together and organize our posts (mainly since there are a number of non-VGC players who would quite benefit from having the maps posted somewhere easier to locate and the lot).

Let me know opinions on this. I'm really not worried about it - it took me ten minutes to throw together. I don't have time to post anything yet, though.

I don't have any problem with it, at worst I just have to check two locations which is hardly a tragedy. 

The only real thing I don't like is that I don't like to run around registering for a lot of websites.  I don't suppose you can post there without being registered?  All I know so far is that I can't create threads since there aren't any yet.  No welcome thread, no "forum created!" news item, no nothing

If your forum takes off, though, I'll very likely give in.  But I don't know -- if they didn't sign up to VGC for this thread, will they there for that forum?  We'll see I guess.

On an unrelated note, I just realized that the "elevated station" (compared to the level of the railway) that I was using in my single player example was, while fine in the air or on (or in) the ground, going to be horrible to implement underwater.  Consequently, I went out spelunking and got some more iron and designed a "sunken station" which does not raise the track above the level of the railway.  Actually, although I initially had misgivings, this might be the superior version.

Exiting from the station (nothing interesting happens in between, you just have to drop the cart down to physically move past the user interface)
Also please note that this represents the first prototype of this station design; later designs included a "press-and-go" button system rather than switches and a button.  However, if you would like to make this yourself but don't want to mess with redstone circuitry, the switch design has nothing but direct redstone lines.]

It was weirdly fun trying to play on the server.  So choppy, you almost walk into creepers before you notice them.  And then you try to get away and you hear the explosion and you have to wait a bit before you find out what the damage was.  (I made it to water, thankfully.)  But when I couldn't open the craft bench and got bumped out I had to accept fate.

"good news everyone!" though comcast does not know or will not say what fixed it, it works again. had to cancel the comcast tech, casue they can never make it out here in the 24-72 hour periods when my network is slow as crap. since this has happened 3 times in the last 5 weeks (not counting a planned comcast outage for 4 hours) i have esclated a ticket to managment, i dont expect anything to be done yet, but im building a case for each time this happens so something can be done... considering i had almost no issues for 7 months with the service until december something has changed and its becomeing a pain. in the mean time im reading through my contract for an SLA to see if i can prove they broke it... i doubt it but its worth a shot.

 

on  the forum thing, thats cool, ill use it, and here still since VGC was nice enough to sticky this thread, and this thread made me decide to open the server up. if we can get every one on the new site rock on.

I've opened up most everything for anonymous replies. Anon can forget about starting new threads, though.

I was planning on advertising the server/server boards on the Minecraft Forums, but I don't want to draw in new players if you don't want to. If I advertise it there, it's likely that a major influx of new players will happen.

 

I agree that posts should still go on here, though.

I wouldn't recommend putting it up on the minecraft forums.

From my experience there, every server I have been on that's advertised on the forums is griefed.

i agree, i was very hesitant to even put i on vgc, however faith in the community has shown well placed, we have only been grieffed twice in the 7ish months of being publicly known
