Minecraft 1.7.2 - The update that f'ed the world.

Why do ugly chunk borders still exist!? Seriously Mojang... :/

I will put it up to a vote if you like. I saved the morning before the update and can role the world back to pre 1.7.x  im not really happy  with the changes either. I have thought about doing a force render on  the world out to 10000x10000   in 1.6.4 but that would leave us close to hosed for new items and things

I vote for the roll back

I'm voting for a roll back too. I can't believe this issue still exists...

to be fair there was a bit of it in other placs on our worlds from moves to 1.4.X, 1.5.X , and 1.6.X   but all of those saw this world as waterworld, just with dif terrain in places... the new build does not see it as waterworld so oceans are gone... as was mojangs intention  they just did not like the oceans as much as i/we did. on the bite side, supposedly in the next update we can roll individual changes back, id roll the ocean reduction back and maybe that fixes the seed…

right now it looks like i will do a roll back so i would not put much work into it

waterworld has been rolled back to 1.6.4 from save on 2013-10-25. sorry for any data loss

this means currently there are no 1.7.x servers hosted. I may open one this week, but will probably wait for bukkit to match 1.7 in a beta build

I've been pretty busy preparing for deployment so I haven't been around at all.

I'm leaving sometime between this Thursday and Nov 16. I'll be in Afghanistan until late next spring/early next summer. If things are slow over there and I get access to a computer powerful enough to play Minecraft (see: not a government computer), then you'll be seeing me stop by sometime (though Afghanistan is 8.5 hours ahead of the US (EDT), so it may be in the middle of the night for y'all. Well, except Forest. He'll possibly see me from time to time if I manage to make it work.

Anyways, for Waterworld, I'm just looking to be able to do stained glass. I DO want the Waterworld to stay alive, but I also really really want stained glass. Whatever eventually lets you make that happen, that gets my vote. Anything else is fair game.

Would be nice if you could load new chunks all around the map and make them all ocean biomes. That's the only solution I can think of. :/

I should probably mention that stained glass is a higher priority for me on Nibiru than on Waterworld. I really want it, but if it can't happen on Waterworld, I'll be able to accept it as long as we get it on Nibiru.

if you guys are alright with it being offline for about 3-4 days i can force render the world out to about 50,000 by 50,000 . this could be seen as a solution, though you would have to travel quite far to get new blocks .

also to tone not much is needed to run minecraft, my laptop can still run it good enough. old core duo and an x1600 from 06. (though it does warn me my days are numbered do to lack of opengl 4.2)

I think that's the best option. It's unfortunate that you'll have to travel so far to get to new land but an efficient portal system can ease the pain quite a bit. Too bad it's impossible to manually decide what biomes should be added. And theoretically I guess you could create a new ocean world in 1.7.2 and then edit in the old world but that sounds a bit complicated and I don't know if the new ocean biome is big enough anyway.

If you force render it out, I can (eventually) build a Nether passageway/minecart system out far enough to put in a portal leading beyond the force-rendered areas, to make it simpler to find one's way out to the new areas in case you want those items.

I thought i had replied to this already. I am going to take water world down on monday for a force render, it should be back up late in the week. I look forward to posting a map of the render.

also bukkit seems to be moving slow to 1.7 no alpha yet so it may be a bit before it moves. I am pretty sure at this point i will start a 1.7 world, ill let you know what port when its done

Sounds good. Will be interesting to see the map once you're done!
