Forums - Nintendo - Unknown error plaguing my brother's Wii

It's that time again folks where I asks questions relating to my brother's Wii.

Today's question is; suspiciously, both Mario and Sonic at the (Winter) Olympics are showing the same error.

You start the disc as normal, choose event, choose character and when it goes to the loading screen it shows a black screen with the message "An error has occured, eject the disc, switch off the console and read the instruction manual." And that's it. It doesn't tell you what to read, why you are reading it, it just says says read the manual...it doesn't specify what manual we are reading and what we are looking for, it just says read it...any help?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Well, did you read the manual?

Sorry.  Had to ask.  Have you tried the disc on a different Wii yet?

We only have access to one atm so we can't really confirm what's going but he says other discs work fine, just these two. He read the wii manual and didn't know what to look for. I...can't be arsed to read it myself if it means reading the whole thing front to back, not being funny but this is why I hate error messages on consoles, they don't give you anything to work with.

I was only joking about reading it.

I can't relly say more until you get the chance to try it on another Wii.   There are several potential errors it could be but it's best to eliminate the source of the error.....being either the disc or the Wii.

ummm....call up Nintendo

Try booting it up in Maintence mode (hold plus and minus and press A when you boot up the system)

First tried it in another Wii, it can be a problem with the discs, It happened to me with one game.

Second, try to clean the lenses, use the kit Nintendo sales, its cheap and can help a lot (mine was very dirty but still worked).

Third, if all these fails call Nintendo, its rare that it only happens with some games (I suspect disc problems), but as someone else said it can be the start of a general problem.
