Forums - Sales - Nintendo Revises Wii and DS Sales Forecast

The hyperbole on this site is ridiculous, on death;s door, falling off, lol

Since when have PS3 or 360 sold 17.5 million in a year, that woul be never, lol

Andyet Wii is doomed for selling only 17.5, ROFL

Only way they get to the 17.5M shipments this year is with a price cut to $150.. probably at end of October.

Nintendo is on death's door at the moment... reduced forecast from 210M in earnings to 90M.  They will likely languish until the release of the next Wii in CY12 and that may be too late.

Nintendo should have had the next NDS out last year and the new Wii this year and they could have maintained momentum...

You do realize they are still selling better than PS3 or 360 on a yearly basis right?  In fact, they are overtracking the PS2 still

Anything can happen now.

Wii is down because it's uniqueness of motion controls got adopted by others, despite being late and the software available being a little lackluster I think it will cause some damage. Also the console is aging faster than others due to the weak hardware.

Commenting on the other consoles, 360 is getting good momentum cause of the slim model and reach, and PS3 past years sales weren't particularly exciting, so being up yoy is a no brainer.

Yet, the 3rd place is just glued with Sony now. No way it will pass 360 imo. Wii despite being down yoy by 3 millions, will  still be tracking above the PS2 right? That would set a new record for that fastest selling home console one more year I'd guess.

If Wii tops 100M by November 2012 it will be on par with PS2, but I think that is quite feasible.

Very fesible, it's not going to sell another 50 mill at the end of it's lifetime though the way it's tailing off.

PS2 isn't at 150 million, check the numbers its 138.38 million as of 2010

They've shipped 50 million, and eventually all those consoles will be sold, heck they shipped 1.5 mill last Q alone I think.

They've only sold about 1.5 million PS2's this year, they may eventually sell those other 11-12 million, but it'll probably be like 10-20 years from now

Sony ship the PS2 to markets (afaik) that VGC can't/doesn't track. That's why it's still selling so well. I mean, they only just released it in Brazil in November. 9 years after it officially released elsewhere.

Yeah, but realistically how many people in Brazil are going to buy a PS2, those that can afford will want a 360 or a PS3 or a Wii, and those that can't won't be buying a PS2 anyways

So lets be serious, Wii is hardly in trouble, yes its nearing the later stages of its product lifecycle, but even now, its overtracking its competiton and even other historical record holders like the PS2

All this talk about niontento needingto rush out its next console or being on death's door is extreme exagerration not supported by the numbers

It's not just Brazil obviously. Numerous other countries to add onto that. Was just giving you an example of the PS2's market and how it's still growing even 10 years after release.

Wii isn't in trouble, so to say, but it is definitely experiencing some problems. It's at it's lowest ever sales and is getting shunned left and right by 3rd parties. It's these 2 reasons why people are expecting Nintendo to release "Super Wii" fairly soon. My guess is early/mid 2012 personally...

Yes, and I have family living in some of those countries, and they don't want PS2's
