Surprised you've been thinking they'll ship 84 mill by end of this year all this time .. even before this forecast they expected only 85 mill shipped end of March 2011. MS and Sony typically ship at least 1.5 mill in Q1 so I imagine Nintendo will ship 2 ish mill. 82/82.5 mill shipped by end of year going by their figures. DEFO no price cut happening.~

Edit - Actually I think you got it right first time around .. they expect 87.5 by march. Which means it should ship 85 by end of year and sell 84 still.

Only way they get to the 17.5M shipments this year is with a price cut to $150.. probably at end of October.

Nintendo is on death's door at the moment... reduced forecast from 210M in earnings to 90M.  They will likely languish until the release of the next Wii in CY12 and that may be too late.

Nintendo should have had the next NDS out last year and the new Wii this year and they could have maintained momentum...

I think death's door is a bit too extreme even for a company whose business is solely games and gaming consoles. Anyways Ninty isn't dumb, the 3DS timing was alright considering how strong the DS still is.

The Wii-2 could be another story, though. It would be too risky of a gamble to wait until 2012, so I hope Ninty is any smart and releases it by the end of the next year.

I agree that Nintendo should be releasing Wii 2 next year, however their is really no evidence that another console is in the works at this point.  No specs out there.. no development kits, no product announcement leaks etc.

When I say "Nintendo is on death's door" i am referring to the fundamentals of the company and Wall Street's perception of the stock.

Their earnings peaked in FY08 at  280M Yen... and now they are tracking to 90MYen.  I am not confident that the 3DS will be enough to offset weakness in NDS and Wii next year...  I do think with a Wii 2 and 3DS in the market they can stabilize earnings and start to grow again.

Basically, If the Wii doesn't come next Holiday it may be another tough year for Nintendo.

500K for the wii is nothing to go crazy about.... but 6.5 Million for the DS o.O Damn, that's a lot.

17.5 million. That not actually bad and still tracking above PS2 with those numbers.

That's what? Double of the 360's forecast?

Where on earth did you get that from?

Microsoft doesn't even release forecasts and the Wii soon will fall below the PS2, just wait for it.

Clearly a big portion of the 6.5 million drop in DS forecast is from the assumed 'delay' of the 3DS. I think most people (even Nintendo) had projected it would have at least launched in Japan before X-mas this year, so I think they reduced their projections now that it's going to be released at the end of February there and March everywhere else...I would like to see ioi or The Source comment on this thread, too, but I have a feeling they are cooking up an article/opinion piece to cover it, anyway...

Bah!
