The only studios that flopped made crap games. Some have struggled because they put out some bad big budget games (I'm looking at you Capcom).

Studios pumping out quality games still seem to be going strong. They probably do better because crap studios are out of the picture.

And lets not pretend developers haven't lost money working on the Wii.

It was much less than in HD consoles that's for sure. Also if they made actual games and not crap they could sell better. We will maybe see this scenario on move and kinect since those are the same principle as the wii: get casuals into gaming. And somewhat casual almost means crappy. Let's see how both devices shape up, but for now things aren't looking good for kinect even at launch.

That's because they put less money into Wii. Hence, less money put in means less lost if sales are bad.

Anyhow, the only games I can really point at for poor sales were not good games period.

Pretty much spot on, this is a good message going forward, put a great game out on PS360 and it'll sell well, a win win for everyone!

Tell that to Black Rock or Bizarre Creations. ;)

Quality alone will never sell something, especially on the HD systems.  Hell, Blur even had a HUGE marketing campaign and it still epic bombed.... there's always going to be more factors at play.

Black Rock? Seriously? Well... Okay. Pure sold over 3 Million units. Split/Second has sold over 500k since it released in May. I think both of them have sold well but, 'sup to you.

As for Bizarre Creations...

Project Gotham Racing 3 - 1.4 Million
PGR4 - 2 Million
Blur - 440k

Blur released in May, so it hasn't even had a Holiday season to sell in yet. Will easily pass 500k though so it's not too bad. Certainly not a bomb

Blur was supposed to be the "Call of Duty of racing games".  It ended up selling a whopping 31k it's first NPD, the game is probably one of the biggest bombs this entire generation... which is why Bizarre is going to be chained up in Activision's basement pumping out 007 games for the foreseeable future...

Seriously. That's hype talk. If you can't see that and you seriously think anyone alive thought it would sell 20 Million units... I'm sorry, but you're insane.

And I DONT CARE if it sold sold 31k in it's first NPD. As of right now we have it as 440k Worldwide.

Anyway, I'm going for a bit. I'm effing starving -_-

Activision does not make games they can't whore out over and over again.  They can't whore out games that don't sell, Blur is a massive bomb.

Yeah, there's really no getting around it.  Even 440k (which is likely greatly overtracked) is an epic bomb for game with the development and promotional budget Blur likely got.

500K in an HD console is a flop. Even 1 million is if the game itself involves budgets above the average. Blur and Split Second are flops. Huge ones.

If the games have sold that bad during all this time, the holiday season won't help much with both HD platforms loaded with massive game launches.

I think you forgot to mention that Blur wasn't a good game to begin with, like you did last time. What's the Metascore of Blur again, only 82?

Excellent point.

@ Whoever it was who said something about whoring. Shut up. It released in May. We have no idea if they intend on whoring it yet.

@ jarrod. How is it likely overtracked? And do you have any proof at all that the game cost a lot to make? I can understand the ad campaign, but dev costs for the game itself... No.

@Mr.Metrelha It's at 500k... Since release in May. It's obviously not going to stop at 500k. You can't say it's a flop after it's a pretty small game that's sold 500k in 4/5 Months. And you must know, it's not just the big games that sell during the Holiday season.
