Nintendo forecast 4mil 3DS units will sell in debut month

Nintendo have certainly got high hopes for their upcoming Nintendo 3DS, as they are reportedly  forecasting four million 3DS units to be sold  by the end of the financial year which is effectively March 2011.

 

Whats more is that what they are effectively saying is that they predict they will reach their target in one month on sale, following the news earlier today of the 3DS release date commencing in February 26, 2011 in Japan and then in Europe and the US in March. That would be an enormous task even for the handheld that is causing such a stir in the gaming world.

Nintendo has recuced both overall hardware and software sales on its DS and Wii consoles for the full year as they should following the launch of Playstation Move detracting from their [possible] Wii sales, and with the news of the 3DS many gamers will be holding out a little longer knocking the DS sales.

Serious numbers but can it be achieved?

I don't doubt it at all.

3ds is going to be huge with preorders selling out in mere minutes if not seconds.

With all this hype even 4millions might not be enough. Plus the starting line up is pretty strong and varied so its gonna be appealing to a broad audience.

That would be awesome if they succeeded. My one fear is that the price will put-off too many people who don't follow the game industry all that often and won't know as much about what it offers.

I believe it. They'll pump 5m-6m to the world and it will nearly sell out each country as people clamor for the new device.

EDIT": oops misread. For some reason I was jumping into the sold category and estimating shipped higher, when in fact it says they plan to ship 4m. Still think it will sell out though.
