Forums - Sony - Why are games selling so poorly on PS3?

I don't think they're selling that badly, all things considered.

They certainly don't look very profitable at the moment though.

You know Resistance was never a packin but yes MotorStorm was.

1. The reason why it isnt selling so well in America is because of the 360 and Wii. People buy those consoles more then the PS3 so when games are multiplatform they pick up the 360 version or Wii. Oh and the install base is so small here. Also dont forget people are using there money on 3rd party games like Call of Duty 4 and Assassins Creed because there more popular and bigger games.

2. I think its selling poorly in Japan is because they have had no major J-RPGs there. Thats what sells very well over there. Most of the games that were released for the PS3 are mostly American made. The big company's like Square Enix or Capcom havent released a big PS3 game yet. I dont even think they have released a PS3 game yet. Plus most of the J-RPGs are still being made for the PS2.

3. For Europe the PS3 is killing. It might not be killing in Hardware (it is doing well though) but it is murdering in software. Hell it has half an install base of the 360 and its selling more games.

 And your point 3 isn't supported by the Others software chart:

Week ending 11/17:

502,545

429,105

Week ending 11/24:

716,226

585,207

Week ending 12/1:

611,251
604,755

 So yes the PS3 is doing better than the 360 in attach rates but it is not selling more games and its not murdering the 360.  Remember PS has a huge branding in Europe vs MS.

Resistance was bundled in EU, i think uncharted will be bundled there as well.

@darconi

considering 360 has DOUBLE the amount of consoles out there

SELLING ON PAR with its software weekly is BAD for ps3 isn't it {sarcasm}

Supporter of

 SONY & Nintendo

 Consoles owned - SNES, N64, PS, GC, PS2, PSP, PS3

 I DO NOT support Xbox

My prediction for YEARS END:

WII - 18.3 Million

Xbox 360 - 15 Million

Playstation 3 - 8.5 Million

 No, I never said it was bad.  I was responding to roadkiller who said, "it is murdering in software" and that "and its selling more games."  Both are incorrect.  Are you going to argue with those points?

@darthdevidem

but remember, software market for 360 in europe is more saturated than PS3's since 360 has a larger games library. And considering also that EU is strongly bonded to the PlayStation brand and the PS3 is the hot hardware in recent sales.

With more consoles being sold, more software sales are generated, which would explain the PS3's extra sales

I think part of it is the ads too. For example, I've just now been seeing Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted commercials on TV. Actually, I really like them too, especially the Ratchet and Clank one with the holiday song.

Anybody notice that the original poster never answered? This thread is FLAME / FLAMEBAIT, so maybe you just shouldn't care.

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

Heh, well Call of Duty 4, Assasin's Creed, and PES 08 (bar any adjustments) should all cross one million before the year is over.
