I was glad to see the number of responses when I checked this thread right now, starting to get a decent number of predictions.
I probably should have put a disclaimer up, as there were a number of people in last year's thread that did not like the deadlines or rules that I placed on this "contest". I'm not suggesting that the top 5 holiday sellers have any sort of importance to the console manufacturers or game developers. I just make these threads because I think it is a fun sales trend to look at, and just another thing to follow for us sales enthusiasts during the most interesting period of the year. So if the rules or restrictions placed here upset you, I'm sorry but I don't plan on changing the rules. If it really bothers you it might just be best not to keep up with this thread, although you are of course welcome to make your own thread using you desired restrictions (This is not aimed at any individual just in general and as preemptive against getting some comments like I did last year).
@Michael -5, Really what this thread is, is the sales of Q4 games in Q4. There has to be an arbitrary deadline somewhere and I just choose the start of October because it is the start of Q4. Also, yes the the last week of data will be for the one ending the first weekend in Jan.
@OkeyDokey, yep you figured it out. The 360 was still in the lead when I stopped updating the thread, but Wii was gaining by a million plus every week so it was going to be in a dominant lead at the end.
@Hyruken, if I extend it to games released before the holidays but then only count holiday sales, updating the data becomes very time consuming. For example, if I were to make it any game released during the year, I would then have to keep up with the sales of the game during Q4 and then subtract that from its total. With games released just during Q4 all I have to do is look at its total sales and enter it. Also if doing sales of all games released during the year, you have to pay attention to a lot more games, as there are a lot more options for games to get into the 4th or 5th spots. Updating all the information for this thread will be relatively time consuming, but extending the deadline to all year would probably at least double the amount of work for me and I'm just not willing to invest that much. If I'm missing some way to look at the sales of a game for only a certain period, please let me know.
