How else can you measure quality if not through sales? You're opinion? Hate to break it to you but your opinion is not gospel, it's all relative. Sales are not.

So as long as "everyone" is doing it, it must be the best thing eva...?  Is this your opinion?

If a game sells well, it did SOMETHING right. You have to at least admit that, especially one that sold as well as Wii Sports.

I never said it did nothing right.  That was NEVER the issue.

No, but if people are buying X thing more than Y thing, is clearly they prefered X thing. Hence, they like it more, so is better in the consumers' eyes.

"Preferred" involves numerous factors of numerous priorities of the factors.  I'm not a Resident Evil fan, but I am a Silent Hill fan while the RE sereis have "enjoyed" more sales than SH.  Are you trying to say that I'm playing a "lesser quality" game?  Maybe you're not but metallicube is because he thinks sales = quality?  Now I do agree with your "better in the consumers' eyes," but those who prefer "Y thing" are consumers, too.  Yes, there are bad products, and then there are quality products that the "minority" prefers.  That is by NO means is a dictation that those products are of lesser quality.

Well... if 8 out of 10 prefered X product over Y product, we can say X product is better. That's the most logical thing I can think of to measure videogames. Maybe for the other 2 who picked Y, is better than X. But 8>2 .... making it a better product in the market

No, you cannot.  You can say "8 out of 10 prefered X product over Y product," but that is the only fact you have.  Then you have to ask, "Why?"  That where you open a pandora's box.

So it all comes down to preference? There's no way to measure quality in videogames?

If sales doesn't show quality in games, then what does? I challenge anyone to answer this. Every time I ask this, nobody answers, and it makes me sad :(

Is it reviews? All reviews are different, and just representative of one person's opinion.

Is it fun factor? This is relative, as some people find games a blast while others find the same game boring.

Is it graphics? LOL

So do you believe every game that sold more than another game is better?  No exceptions?  You do realize how ridiculous that list would look, right?

Never said there was no way to measure quality in videogame.  Never.  But quality is never measured by popularity.

So tell me... how do we measure quality in videogames?

And as I expected, no answer to my question.

Here, I'll illustrate what I am trying to get across. If you named a game you believe to be of the highest quality, say MGS... But I guarentee you there are people out there that hate the game. So who is right? You could say, "well, more people love MGS than those that hate it, so that makes my opinion more valid."

...But then we're back to the majority rules argument, which is exactly what I've been trying to say.

How do you measure quality in movies, music, tv, etc.?  If your answer is always popularity, then I guess that's your opinion, as crazy as that seems to me.

My answer is there isn't a great way.  If I HAD to give a way, I'd go by something like metacritic or gamerankings, etc.  I think that would be very flawed, but would find it much, much better than going by sales.

If, say, a new dragon quest game came out that most critics panned, say it averaged a 30 on metacritic, yet it was priced at $5, do you think it would sell?  Yet by your measurement, it would be better than hundreds of games that deserved better.  There's just too many factors that go into sales for it to be a measure of quality.

So tell me... How is something the most popular/that sold the most automatically means it of top quality.
