But again, very puzzling how VGC would begin counting only unique users to Eye and Move as the official numbers.

It's not puzzling. VGC provide numbers to those they matter to. Developers will want to know how big the install base for the Move which means the amount of households that can play their game with a Move. The total sales are not all that relevant to them, that's why VGC does as it does.

I predict meltdowns soon. Reports are going around that Bestbuys in the western half of the US are reporting sold out on Move, Amazon is sold out as well as others.

Do not take VGChartz preliminary  numbers at face value. I do not say this as a dig against VGChartz but just look at recent events.

Japan preliminary numbers are consistently off. Then take a look at PS3 Slim launch. First VGC reports said 400k PS3 were sold that week, then as the week went by it went from 400k to 450k and eventually up to around 600k sold.

So you should all relax before spouting out about who is wrong and who is right because for all we know these numbers are way way off.

According to  biased PlayStation site and none of us know for certain how many units were shipped to those locations.

@CGI

The link I posted early (I guess):

http://playstationlifestyle.net/2010/09/20/playstation-move-sells-out-during-first-week-of-launch/

And maybe the site is right about big retail "sold out" just because (maybe) Sony shipped low numbers.

Where exactly did you see that amazon is sold out ?? Everything move-associated is in stock on amazon and in fact the 399$ halo reach console has been killing the 399$ move ps3 . Actually move stuff has been doing very mediocre in amazon (and even worse in other online stores like eb games/gamestop ) , considering how it is "new" stuff. The move was absent from the top-20 until 2-3 days before release and went to n.2 for 1-2 days before beginning its drop while the move ps3 bundle achieved its higher position (n.14) for just a few hours before starting to drop . Things are much worse in the eb games/gamestop best sellers.

Euphoria said that amazon is sold out. It's not and neither is the eb games/gamestop online store , simple as that , no "ifs and buts" . Oh and the move starter pack WAS NOT  in the amazon top-20 2-3 weeks before release .

This "sold out" excuse is also old , esp. when it comes to sony products (and here it is quite obviously not true) . I remember when the 360 was beating the ps3 in the NPDs at the first half of 2010 and that was because of "shortages" and even though these shortages were somewhat true the pent up demand for the ps3 never appeared when stock was back in.

As far as Amazon goes, there are few third party sellers and only one selling barely above retail price which indicates that supply isn't that big of a problem. If there was a severe shortage you would see tons of third party sellers jacking up the price.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Bold is false. Both the Move Starter Pack and Move controller were in the top 20 for 2-3 weeks prior to release. The navigation controller made it into the top 20 four days prior to release.

And besides, Amazon #s have never (on their own) been any indicator of anything substantial. All Euphoria is saying is in general, Move has been selling out.

If it is really sold out, it is sparsly sold out. Every store in my area has controllers (based on a quick online search) and all online retailers seem to have stock. I even bothered to check EBGames stores throughout NYC and couldn't find a single sold out store (obviously I didn't check every one, just a bunch).

For some reason everyone likes to trust online rumors more than estimates based on factual data. Yes, VGC is off sometimes, but more often than not they are close or right on.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Well, if you want to get technical, the N64's stick was digital, while Sony's was true analog.  Also, Sony released rumble the same month Nintendo released the Rumble Pak in Japan.

The N64's analog stick is still analog.  Potentiometers and rotary encoders are both analog.

It's still was based on digital technology.

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/n643.htm

Regardless, the point is mostly moot as the N64's control stick still allowed for much greater movement then a normal D-Pad.  Plus, I'm also pretty sure they switched over to a potentiometer based stick for the Gamecube and Wii.

"When the amount of light changes, the level of current changes"

That makes it an analog device.  Being analog is a reference to the electrical current having a dynamic range of output. Digital would mean 1 signal level only.

You are correct that all modern analog sticks use potentiometers thanks to their ubiquity which makes the price far cheaper than the now rarely used in anything rotary encoders (mouse tracking ball).

The rEVOLution is not being televised

It is interesting to hear about how some places have sold more then other places really.

This week will be an interesting week for the hardware and software as it will be up against the start of new games coming out i.e F1 2010,Dead Rising 2 etc..So if Sports Champions can stay in the top 2 next week in UK i would be very impressed and think it could go on to do ok. But if it drops out of the top 5 or so i question how it will do for the rest of the year as loads more higher profile games coming out.
