Forums - PC - I want to buy a gaming pc from a retail shop...

You need at least about 600 to get a low-end gaming PC though. I consider mine a lower end high.

Just buy any computer with decent specs and put a good video card in it.

Voila, you have a gaming PC.

@sweettoothj: The 5450 is truly crap for gaming. Octocore processor is probably pointless when a dual or quad will be just as fast if not faster for gaming. 8gb of ram is about twice as much as you need. So in short, that's not a gaming PC, more of a workstation.

Just from a quick look at the "gaming" PCs Fry's is selling, you are going to end up paying hundreds of dollars more than the actual components are worth for something with a shitty video card. All of PCs that I looked at in the gaming section would be truly useless for that purpose.

I don't know where to steer you, but maybe find a small business who builds PCs? If you can find a shop with a decent reputation, tell them your budget and have them build you something. Maybe have someone here double check the specs to make sure it's decent before you commit to it.

You're going to end up spending double what you should if you buy from a retail store.

No; it has DDR2. The same card with DDR3 or GDDR3 memory would be OK for older games on lower resolutions. What games do you plan to play and at what resolution?
